Corey , I wouldn’t put the Drz and Rmz in the same class but I do think it will effect resale values of the Drz , also the Drz is the only dirt bike I’ve owned so I am keen to try a few more before my times out ;)

Lefty , I was looking at the 390 Berg when they first came out and I really like then , I’d love a ride but I am concerned about not having a local dealer near me !

I think you Will find that no matter what bike you end up buying someone Will Tell you that you should have bought something different. But at the end of the day you have to get what is gonna work for the trails you ride most which is obviously singles! If when i was buying i was living around the coffs area i would look no further than a 250 4t you just Cant beat em in the tight stuff and you can just cruise on them as they have way more bottom end then a few years back. The only time i wanted something else is open dirt roads! Thats when the bigger bikes Will pepper you.

My bike has the grey wire mod, the air box opened up and a Barrett’s slip on. No work has been done on the engine. I am sure someone like Lefty could breathe a little more fire out of it. :woohoo:

Relaible WR engine with all the Euro fruit hanging off it. Very nice!
Kinda what you would end up with if a conservative Japanese engineer married a hot Spanish chick :woohoo:

it would be interesting to ride a CRF with a stock exhaust, and compare the power delivery, you have to remember the one you rode isnt stock. The CRF would be the way I would go if i was changing, but the reliability and smoothness and low maintainence and ease of working on and good fuel range and the useable power and the ability to go everywhere everyone else goes of my DRZ just sems to be a great reason to keep it.Add one kick start and away we gooooo. But yeah the CRF does look the ducks guts in the 250 range.

Like Boony says, you need to compare a stock CRF to the one you have ridden. Then ride a third bike to gain an idea. As I pointed out in my earlier thread a one size change on a Main Jet can change a bike from mild to wild

You may be disappointed, unless you fit the same slip on & jet it exactly the same.

Interesting you make coment on others older Wr’s as they are both steel framed, nothing like the newer alloy framed WR’s.

Read up on DBW a fair amount of people have love hate relationships with their 250 CRF’s.

Not trying to steer you to a brand, just beware, because you have ridden a bike & like it that you buy one & will be happy with it.

I reckon it’s hard there are so many good bikes around. Things I have taken out of this thread and talking with you are

1/ You being so wrapped with Aaron’s bike with besides a pipe is out of the box.

2/ SBs great post about two same model (year and all) bikes being so different.

3/ the talk about pipe on Aaron’s bike, really how much power do you reckon that adds in the real world honestly. If it gained 4 horsepower I will give it up, and I don’t mean the pipe makers claims real world figures for me please

4/ power loss with the Kings, it’s fairly new really. It must be ok inside because it was only 18months or so ago he had the cases split to repair it jumping out of gear. That means barrel, rings, piston etc looked at even if they didn’t throw a set of rings in so it must still be fairly fresh eh. Like he says it has the wire mod, muffler and must be jetted ok so it’s the same as Aaron’s

Two stoke, four stroke, opinions, dealers, service, new, second hand, support, opinions, history, test rides, opinions, deals, pipes, opinions, exotic euro bikes, your thoughts, magazine articles and much more

Good luck mate will watch with interest

Oh my opinion for what is worth you like the idea of a 250, the CRF floated your boat straight up imagine how good it could be with some tweaking in your own singles. Another thought I have given that I know some of the other things you want to do year after next and you liked the CRF I would look at a CRF450 with a flywheel weight kit and it’s injected so have it tuned to suit. Like SB there is no difference between them and he has ridden a few on rented CRFs. Good deals on them at the moment same suspension quality brakes etc

Just my thoughts, like I always say opinions are like arseholes everyone has one, none right or wrong because it only and opinion after all ;)

    .

I said that to Nick the other night as Spud’s is a steel frame and I have seen my brother in-law go from steel to alloy and struggled with the setup

    Nick,

The thing you’ll appreciate most is weight, the older you get the heavier your bike gets  and as I always enjoy sampling the soil on my rides  weight is an issue for me

I’m sure what ever you choose you’ll be happy with once you personalize it ;)

The hard part is deciding which bike to personalize

    Adam.

    Hi Nick
You were stoked when you got off the CRF there must be something in that alone. And as Adam said when you tweak it with a few extra modes it will be great. Or just get a new yellow beast   :cheer:
