A quick review for my new all weather camera. NIKON Coolpix AW100. Basic specs, 16mp CMOS sensor, 1080hd video, 10m waterproof, 1.5m shockproof, 5x optical zoom and built in GPS with world maps. I paid just shy of $300 for it at a camera store but have since seen them for as low as $220 online.

I bought this one after my old Olympus Tough 770 died. Actually its not dead just no longer waterproof.
I took the Nikon to Fiji and used in the pool, in the ocean, on Jetski, got sand on it and at one stage in a drunken incident threw it into a garden. Took me awhile to find it again. So far it come through unscathed. It’s early days yet so but if it is as durable as the old Olympus was I will be more than happy. I plan on using it for riding both moto and MTB as well as on my kayak and the kids will no doubt give it a flogging at the beach.
The image quality is good. I just had a photo book printed up and It’s hard to tell the difference between the photos taken on the little Nikon and those taken on my Canon DSLR. All the imaged have been processed the Apple Aperture 3 software.
It’s easy to use and one thing I liked when snorkelling is you don’t need to go through menus to change from photo mode to video. Just press shutter for photos or hit the video button and it starts videoing.
The only thing I wish it had that the Olympus has is a cover on the lens when turned off. I just throw this camera in my pocket so with the lens not covered it is a bit more vulnerable.
Sorry if the following images come across as Scotty’s boring holiday snaps but I haven’t had much chance to use it yet.
