November 11, 2010 at 5:33 am #190510I think justo just bought a Nissan Navara He paid $26K for a real low mileage job But it might be an 06 not sure, very nice car still.
Rangers are designed in Oz and have real good raps as well, yanks are spewin cause they wont sell them over there as they would be a direct competitor with the F150 :laugh:Ollie
November 11, 2010 at 5:37 am #190517STM i have a diesel Mitsubishi triton and i would recommend them very highly.might be worth a look.

Also the clutches are useless I’m on my third in 130000km and a mate with a Navara is on his second in 80000. Their are heavy duty clutches avalible but they won’t fit them under warrenty.
I reckon they are all very similar now and apart from resale the hilux isn’t leaps ahead of all the others like it used to be, on price and hindsight I’d go the Navara.A late model secondhand Hilux will be a lot easier to sell than a late model secondhand Navara.
I would be test driving a new Hilux as well.Gotowo
Go the D40 navara I have 100,000k on mine no clutch problems its a typical nissan bullet proof.
My budget is 30k so my choice is new Navara or second hand Hilux.

November 11, 2010 at 7:04 am #190519STM I have a ranger as a work car. I would not by one.great on the open road, horrible off road.
I have a triton as my own car. I have been doing heaps of k’s taking the kids away racing, plenty of power, comfy & good fuel economy even towing a trailer.
I have a mate who is on his 2nd D40 & loves itNovember 11, 2010 at 9:16 am #190475I don’t know much about the D22 as I own a D40 Diesel with 130000km on it,
I do know the power & torque figures for a D40 look good on paper, people will say they get good fuel economy, sure they do, Just don’t tow or load it up.
A D22 with 30kw less power & 100nm less torque than a D40 it would be a disapointment on the road.
D22’s are small, extremely tight in the back, not for adults, where as a D40 is a respectable size.
Not what you want, we have a VW T5 Transporter same power & torque figures as the D40, makes both in a totally different way. Doesn’t feel our enlosed trailer on the back & we averaged 10L/100km to Alice Springs with all our gear for Finke, The D40 would have used heaps more even an empty trailerfeels like a big weight hanging off the back.
D40’s have 3000kg tow capacity, great just don’t try a hillstart with a 2.5t wake boat, it will need low range to get going even on slight grades, embarassing at traffic lights.
November 11, 2010 at 8:35 pm #190476have owned a d40 diesle for almost 2 years and there not good. there GREAT..sorry boony. compared both hilux when l was buying and bang for buck the nissan shat all over the hilux even in the smallest of things. as the guy know i hammer the poor thing as a daily work ute towin a work trailer with all the tools to fix or make anything.on weekends it a worrior from wild weekends with the boys to campin and sking town the ski boat and a 26ft van…all like a dream.it says something when the guys took my navara out to comerons corner over the hilux. in that time l had bollocks hilux and l reackon that the navara would eat the hilux..but the hilux was auto. have a look at the footage from the corner and think we will be seeing u in a navara. the only thing i can knock is the rear suspension is a bit soft. if your comming on the coffs ride ur more then welcome to give it a beating

They do look the goods Ollie. I rekon they’ll be around the 60k mark. The new Nissan Narvara 550 should be out now too. It’ll be 60k odd as well. Way to much for a run about ute I reckon.
