Anonymousi noticed in the note for this thread that it says ‘No Chinese Please !!!’
a mate who’s knows a bit about the industry as he tests and get free bikes from an australian bike company told me that one would find it very difficult to buy a bike that is not made in china.
i have heard that even the bmw 450 race bike motor is made in china.
September 7, 2009 at 10:20 pm #151398BMW race engines built in China am I reading that right? Where did you hear that Champo?

Anonymousi think i may have read it in a mag. i was curious how the germans could make a new race bike cheaper than yamaha
thinking of the 10 bikes that are in the vault for the next week. the elsinore (and maybe the nifty 50s) would be the only bike made in japan.
September 7, 2009 at 10:40 pm #151405I am betting our BRP’s where made in Nippon.
September 7, 2009 at 10:40 pm #151406There maybe some castings or some engine bits mass produced in China as most manufacturers do (Cummins included) but to say the whole engine in made there maybe drawing a long bow I reckon, just my opinion. Mick has to talk to Rory Rock (BMW dealer at Port Mac) soon regarding the Christmas party so he can ask, as its a great forum question.
Did you know that China take over a 3rd of the worlds raw resources to produce steel, that’s just one country!

AnonymousWhere do you think the majority of the Newy coal goes
September 7, 2009 at 10:54 pm #151409The reference to Chinese is related to cheaper pit bikes and the likes, this is because of their quality, availability of parts and safety concerns etc. We have witnessed these cheap bikes at Pacific Park in action. I have seen a kid riding around the circle track (with no jumps) and have the frame break of at the headset, just snapped. A 5 year old on a quad had the front stub axle snap of on the same track and cart wheel. There was a PW 80 style replica that was there that wasn’t very old (third ride I think the Dad said) they started it and the kid didn’t even get onto the track and the engine smashed a hole in the side of the crankcase, the dad rang the dealer straight away. I asked was there any warranty with it and he said the dealer told him you couldn’t get parts for it and it was easier and cheaper to buy a new bike? Why would you buy one? Every time we go to Pacific Park I end up helping someone with one of these cheaper style bikes. Yes I have had Lochie’s bike fail at Pacific Park once but the quality of bike is far above those cheaper Chinese bikes and I came home and had the parts within 3 days. The rear spring for your thumperstar is an example of Chinese parts availability, that happened in April and you may have only just got a shock absorber as you couldn’t just get a spring
When I asked a dealer in the Sydney area last year where the pit bikes had gone I was told that they hired a pantech to take the Thumperstar style pit bikes and Chinese bikes that they had on the floor back to the distributor as they are so concerned about the quality of the bikes they are scared of being sued.
There is no particular reference to any brand meant in the above statement and is just my opinion

September 7, 2009 at 11:01 pm #151415The local China bike dealer here is getting out too, I asked him why and he said that there is no support from the distributor and he was sick of being told lies about parts availability from the importer.

i had a slopie bike for the boy and in 4 rides it needed 3 repairs :blink:very dangerous better off spending another $500 and going second hand kwacka to start on
September 7, 2009 at 11:58 pm #151421Yeah I was a bit worried all our DRZ400 and KLX400 riders might have had to leave the forums…..
Some excellent stuff comes out of China, they manufacture to the quality asked of them by the client, if you want BMW quality it will happen, if you want a turnover of millions of units with limited lifespan they will do that too.

September 8, 2009 at 12:13 am #151434Ever wonder why so many of them little Chinese kids bikes are Yamaha Peewee 50 and 80 copies. Make ya think them Chinese factories were already tooled up to produce Yamaha’s.
September 8, 2009 at 12:13 am #151435Thats exactly right Blue I should have said the quality of the stuff is like you say as per the order  , our Cummins gear from there is so good. Yes sorry I didnt mean its all crap, any manufacturer will produce to a price

AnonymousIt did used to all be crap. However, as they have grown and learnt they knock out some pretty good stuff now. Most companies I deal with now have some sort of manufacturing set-up in China and without even having to employ Western QA guys
Times are a changing people…..
