It’s what i call the “Macarthur formula” my Grandma and I used to talk about how General Douglas Mac set the process in motion for Japan to become the manufacturing giant it became and then moved on to more cerebral and high value exports, leaving a vacuum for the likes of India, Tiawan, Pakistan and now China to exploit.

September 8, 2009 at 3:11 am #151400very difficult to compete with cheap labour, the only concerns for the ceo’s of the whole production process including importing and exporting is profit, in the last 5 years ive noticed huge changes and poor quality with just everything, unless its built from the ground by local business who care about quality you usually get raped.

September 8, 2009 at 5:12 am #151481I agree with the Blueman and Moto: The chinese can make good stuff. They will (if they want to or are asked to) make a dirt bike that will really make a difference.
Basically a Fiat500 or a Hyundai Excel of the dirt bike world.
The should make a 250 or 450, as reliable as an XR, reasonable power or at least easy to modify and 2/3 the price of a jap equivalent. Dirt bikes for the masses. Choices of colour and all the generation Y wants. Aftermarket parts galore.
Hell, I would consider buying one if it’s cheaper and reliable.September 8, 2009 at 5:24 am #151401years ago i worked in a merchindise store…we had a heap of cheap chinese steel posts come in,they sold like hot cakes.Sure as eggs over the next few weeks they all came back all twisted and bent. They looked good ,but were as weak as piss. The steel was no bloody good.If we keep selling them decent raw materials maybe they will start to come good one day.
My point is…they dont build things to last, maybe they dont know how to, or maybe they dont give a rats bum.
But maybe…just maybe,one day they might.my 2 bobs worth
Bol :woohoo:
September 8, 2009 at 6:09 am #151505Bollocks that was probably the instructions the manufacturer was given or something to that effect, “just make ’em cheap as possible”.
High end stuff is made in China too.
Anyway Moto, actually I meant “Cerebral” as in smarter, higher thinking, intellectual type things, maybe it’s not oft used in such context but hey you know me, my syntax is disjointed at best.BC

AnonymousThe Chinese are now making large scale petrochemical equipment for Western customers when this stuff was typically reserved for countries considered as having high end manufacturing capabilities.
The reputation, even today is marred by the fact that they still knock out the cheap day to day consumer crap that does break. Big industry has made the move to Chinese manufacture, that says it all really

September 9, 2009 at 6:50 am #151653The best Chinese is made by Malaysians in Cessnock or it was 10 years ago.
The best Aussie bakery was in Grafton owned by a Chinese baker.
And the best Pommy fish and chips is cooked by a Japanese lassie at Bondi on the main esplanade.
And the best Italian Pizza is made by a greek bloke at lismore.
It’s all good.
But real Chinese cuisine you leave to the Chinese methinks like Moto.
