went for a blast to noojee today.

met up with Billt, who has been an OBT member for a while, we have been trying to hook up for a ride for months, and one of us has always had something else on.
had a coffee at bills and met his mate Lee.

we loaded their bikes, bill has a berg550 and Lee has his trusty wr250, and left about 9.30 ish from bills and headed up to timberlost bike unload area, near noojee.

it was decided to ride the DSE track loop 1. it was raining when we got there and bill said the first hill will be a prick if its too wet and we may have to go around. we geared up and headed to the first hill. it was a rutted snotty mess. my new S12s wouldnt even have made a difference, so we went around.

we took some dirt road for a while and with a bit of map checking found our way back to the next part of the trail.

it was drizzling and cold on the open gravel roads, all i could think about was why i hadnt fitted my grip heaters yet….
**note to self…DO IT TOMORROW, NO EXCUSES!!!

soon we hit some tighter tracks, some slimy, some grippy. we all warmed up again quickly. there were some great tracks on this loop and i will be going back there for sure.

we stopped for a breather and saw a beagle dog with a tracking collar sniffing around….Hmmm, deer hunters:angry:
the dog nuzzled its way around us and went down the gully next to us. after a few minutes it started barking its arse off. its owner drove past us, stopping to check we were ok, and kept going. 5 minutes later we heard an almighty BANG!! it sounded like a cannon going off…..

we all decided it was time to go before we got shot!

we headed through some more tracks and up some really greasy but gentle hills. they were great fun, second gear climbing and cross rutting all the way up, launching over erosion mounds and sliding both wheels sideways upon landing…wicked…oh,yeah!:woohoo: :woohoo:

we made it to the last track, which was the same track as we were supposed to start on, with the rutted hill. it was a really greasy, somewhat overgrown single track. with some big bogholes thrown in for good measure. bill managed to have a little lie down due to a bloody big rock andhurt his knee a bit but was ok. Lee managed to sink his WR into a bog, so well that the bike was standing up all on its own.

    Lee with the thumbs up:laugh:

his second attempt was non eventful;)

i just putted around the side rutt. i bet if Lee wasnt “testing the waters” when i got there i would have done the same thing, but without the finesse:laugh:

here Billt on the berg, mastering the abyss:laugh:

man, it doesnt really look it, but by crikey it was slippery.

    my Kato awaits me….

we continued slipping around until we got to the snot hill. the same one we decided not to go up, we now had to go down. it was bloody hard going. i dont often get arm pump going down a hill but i did this time. it needed total concentration.

look at the slop on my tyres

eventually we all got down and drifted our way back along some gravel roads back to the black top for the last couple of Kms back to the cars.

we ungeared and loaded up, then headed to the neerim south bakery for a feed. i dunno if i was just really hungry, but the sausage rolls were A1 there, and they had bloody good pies too……would have liked to have tryed the steak, bacon and cheese one, but some young whippersnapper got the last one:(
bloody Lee, has no respect for his elders:laugh:
we all said our goodbyes and headed our seperate ways home.

it was a great days ride, with a couple of good blokes.;)

will be doing it again for sure…real soon.

thanks bill and lee for the ride, i had a ball.

Hey Menace, it was a top day me and Lee a ball, a little less marginal road would have made it perfect. Wasn’t it fun, some really good track and hills.

Next time we go we will take you out on track 2 it is only a 40K loop but the first set of hills are a real challenge. We will wait for it to dry up a bit first…LOL

It was really good to finally meet and have a ride with you, love the Kato great bike.

I look forward to cathing up with you again and we will take you up on that offer to a zip around Glenmaggie when you are going next for sure, just give me a few weeks warning.

    Thanks
    Bill.
