I have a lot of photos and footage to load up but I just wanted to say a massive thanks to Mike for organising an incredible weekend of riding. He put so much work and thought into making this weekend a truly great one. Cheers also to Damo and Tom for their local knowledge and of course Nickj and Spud for rounding out a great group of blokes.
Special thanks to Andrea and Marnie who set up and cooked our lunch on Saturday out in the bush.
Epic weekend!!!STM
September 30, 2012 at 7:13 am #230030Well said Scotty , big big thanks to Mike , Damo and Tom for showing us some very special trails and to Andrea and Marnie for the great feed in the bush.
As far as terrain goes I don’t think it can get any better , this is the most testing and rewarding ride I’ve done with a great bunch of mates and hills , hills , hills :woohoo:
Pics and vids to follow. !!

September 30, 2012 at 7:54 am #230031Well i’v got to say a BIG thanks to the 3 guys that travelled up here to help make it a classic old bull trailriding weekend, bringing the character, fun and laughter that these weekends are known for
.
STM,Nickj, and Spud along with Damo and Tom all chipped in to make it an awesome event
which started on Friday with a phone call from Nick who was already in Noosa,to say Spud was over the Gateway bridge at Brissy by 8.30am   closely followed by STM at 9am.
With the boys going at this pace we were looking at being on the bikes and riding by 1pm,when i got to the campsite at Imbil with Stm and Damo we were greeted by Nick and Spud who had our site set up with us just having to put the tents up then get changed into riding gear
.
The conditions were dry and sunny with the inevitibility of dust on the tracks
the loop i had planned was changed at the last minute(while riding into the forest from the campsite  ) and went off on another track which had mainly singles into some fast sweeping twin track,a couple of decent downhills and a couple of good sized uphills got the guys into the swing of it
this was followed by a small run down some forest tracks into a nice uphill single section loop that returned onto the forest track a bit farther dowrn the road :silly:
There was a good pace being run and everyone had a story of railing turns, fast whoops that Spud seemed to find to his liking by doubling up some whoops and even tail whipping the opposite direction to the track :woohoo:
We then entered probably one of the best single track sections on the coast which goes on for around 12ksthis was done in one go with no stops and all at a VERY good pace :silly: :silly: when we got to the end we were all beaming about how awesome it was :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: that good we went and did it again
We then went from fast singles over to a hilly area where we played for another half hour by which time everyone was in need of a beer   so a quick ride out of the forest past the campsite about three ks to show the guys the Borumba Dam in perfect condition with minimal chop for the people out skiing
We headed back to the campsite ,parked tyhe bikes and changed into boardies grabbed a coldie and walked 50metres to the river and jumped in to cool downand f++k was it cold 😆 😆
Much bench racing followed into the night with some food cooked on one of Spuds awesome pot belly cookers
and a good number of beers, we later hit the sack in preparation for Saturdays loop

September 30, 2012 at 8:45 pm #230038Friday Sept 29th
The day began with my phone alarm piercing a silent and dark morning. I looked at my watch and as planned it was 4.30 am. My ute was loaded so all I had to do was grab a quick bite of breakie and by 5am I was on the road.
First stop was the 24hr Coles express to fuel up on diesel and premium unleaded.
The drive north along the Clarence River was a wall of fog at times as the cold morning air hit the warm river it created a white out.
The blanket of fog was so thick in spots and it seemed like I was the only human awake and driving out here at that time of day. The forecast was for a clear warm day and you could sense the sun was struggling hard to burn its way through
As I headed through the cane fields the sun finally started to win its battle and visibility began to improve.

I had a great run up the coast and four hours after leaving home I crossed the Gateway Bridge and set my sights on the Sunshine Coast. As I continued north I wondered what Mike would have in store for us this year. If I had of been able to see the future this is what I would have seen. Thrills, Spills and Massive Hills!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hu2QVRtT3d4After a few calls to Mike, he and Damo met on me the side of the Bruce hwy and led me to the campsite. On the drive west from the coast the mountains started to jack up and seemed to grow with every km we travelled. We crossed crystal clear streams running down from the mountains, which snaked their way through the fertile valleys and flowed on through little old country towns.
Following Mike it was hard to know whether we were going riding for the weekend or helping him move house.
When we arrived at the campground we found Nickj and Spud who had set up a great spot for us.
In no time at all we were geared up and ready for a ride. Tom was joining us after work that night so it was Mike, Damo, Nickj , Spud and myself that headed out for an afternoon loop.

October 1, 2012 at 12:01 am #230059Looks the goods already and it’s only the Friday per-ride! I had a lot of time to think whilst sat on the plane and most of it was spent sulking I wasn’t on the QLD ride
October 1, 2012 at 7:58 am #230032Saturday
After an early start and very little sleep for me
we got round to having brekkie then slowly got changed into our riding gear, I had sensed a mood of expectation after yesterdays wicked loop and was a bit unsure if todays loop was going to ok  .
We rode out of the campsite, 200metres down the road and turned into the forest then within 50metres tunred left up an endless hill that always gets the armpump going  following the track over the hillside and down the other side which is as rocky as it gets, I stopped after about 5ks to see if everyone was warmed up
We followed the mainly single but fairly technical track for another 15ks or so before hitting a transport section to link us with the next forestOctober 2, 2012 at 8:32 am #230081Big thanks to Mike,Damo and Tom.
A huge thankyou to there familys for the lunch break on saturday..Great tucker.
Mike, Damo and Tom can all wheel a bike….I now understand why……. :woohoo:
Always good to ride with Nickj and STM… :woohoo: :woohoo: Riding them singles were awesome..
Thanks again Mike i had a ball……

We started with a drop into a normally wet creek but at the moment being dry it posed no problems to the crew
this led to a run through a fast flowing twin track section where everyone could get into a rythm and twist the throttle a bit
everytime I looked round to leave a corner man there was a huge roar followed by an even bigger dust cloud, the boys were on it :woohoo: :woohoo: eventually this track took us to a sweet tight single through a pine forest ending with a nasty rocky shit of a hill that is like riding on marbles :S :S I was up and onto the next corner but when looking back to leave a cornerman there was no one  Damo came along soon after telling me theior was carnage on the
hill
After a few minutes the crew had gathered again so we moved on, and on riding round the next corner we were greeted by the smoko girls :woohoo: who had set up a pit tent with a bbq going and drinks on handmany thanks to my wife Andrea and Damo’s wife Marnie for the effort they put in it was awesome
and much appreciated.

October 2, 2012 at 10:41 am #230033When we restarted we were heading into one of the best sections of the ride, some very sweet tracks with good size challenging hills both up and down and virtually no dust even after 2 months without rain
.
I was enjoying this part and guessing by the hooting and hollering coming from behind me :woohoo: so was everyone else, however, that was due to change as we got closer to Pig Hill  this hill creeps up on you and all of a sudden we were there  i was up with Spud right up my clacker ,but he had a lot more speed thah me and as I searched for a lower gear I heard him shouting for me to keep going , I did but not quick enough and Spud hit the deckbut he was well over the hard part so a victory was claimed
.
As I parked and turned round to see what was going on, the hill was littered with red bikes  (as per STMs first video), once the red team had made their way down Damo on the shiny new 6day Kato started his attempt, all was looking good until he was knocked off line and had to drop the 6day :woohoo: his next go was a nice clean ride to the top.
You could sense a few nerves at the bottom as Tom fired up , he set off for a big run up and came back into view with a lot of pace and proceded to make the pig look easy cruising to the top with easewell done mate.
I don’t think Nick and Scott were looking forward to another go but bouyed on by the crew at the top STM lined up,hit it, but got knocked off line and as he tried to keep going the front wheel started to rise  but then stalled and came to a halt giving the new CRF a few scars.
Nick then had his go and gave it a big effort before coming unstuck on a difficult part of the hill leading to a nasty hit for the bike, however they both had the guts to have another go on a very intimidating hill, well done guysOctober 2, 2012 at 11:30 am #230154Friday 29th cont.
As we rode out of the campground it was clear we were in for a hot lap of Mikes local. Damo flew past me on the back wheel of his six day 450 and Spud took off after him. Nickj and I twisted the wrist and hung on as we disappeared in a cloud of dust down a service trail.
It was not long until we turned into our first single and got a taste of what was to come for the next two days. It had been 12 months since I had ridden this area but I had not forgotten how good it was and it seemed Mike felt the weight of expectation as he delivered sweet single after single.
On the rare occasion you got to see Mike it was not for long. There are probably more photos of Bigfoot and the Loch Ness monster than there are of Mike on the trail but I managed to get one before he disappeared around the next bend.
Over the course of the next two hours we stopped to regroup once and that was just so Mike could see if we wanted to ride a buffed 12km single again. The answer was clearly YES.
Every time you hit a single it was up on the pegs and railing and then you would see a cornerman pointing you onto a service road and the dust plume from a bike off in the distance on the pipe. The next time you saw another bike was at the next entry to a single and off you went again.
We rode 64km in under two hours, Not much for the ADV crew but we were riding mostly singles!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VMOoq8D0JUBy now we were well and truly warmed up for Saturday so the call was made to head back to camp, crack a coldie and float around in the river.
Perfect! We then settled into our campsite and celebrated a great day with a few more ales and a camp cook up.

October 2, 2012 at 11:44 am #230156So jealous. Good to hear the silver fox has still got some pace, not bad for an old timer
I’m surprised Damo has let the report get so far without a pic of the six days, we gotta have one. They look sweet………..but I couldn’t own a bike with Germany written on it hahahaha!!
