Well guys it was a top 3 days of riding. :woohoo:
Thanks Nick for your effort in putting the ride together and putting us up at your place, its much appreciated. :cheer: :cheer:
You cant control the weather but it all turned out good in the end,
Its all been said pretty well in the previous reports and I didn’t take many photos, but here are a coupleAlong the road into Tabulum
TB admiring the 690 along Rocky River Rd
Some photos at Dalmorton lunch stop
Hope Marlo heals up quickly, would be good to see him on more ADV rides

Bol :woohoo:August 23, 2011 at 6:25 pm #207193Just washed the bike so I could take some photos of the rack mods and found a huge dent in the front of my bash plate that was not there before the ride
Its supposed to be flat across that section – its pushed in about 30mm

August 23, 2011 at 11:29 pm #207195Well once again,I’m reading someone els’s adventure:( But it sure sounds like you guyes had a great ride. There sure is some nice country up that way.:cheer:
Nice report n pics there Nick;)August 24, 2011 at 12:18 am #207573Wonder how that happened Mick ?? Are you sure you didn’t ride over one of those rally cars !!!
Glad you enjoyed the reports Teza , you’ll have to get up this way next time we do a ride
not all roads lead somewhere but it’s fun exploring!!
Amazing how easy it is once your back to look at the route and see all the possibilities. Shonky maps is a good place to start plotting but a lot of their mapping is so old it can’t be guaranteed you’d get your commodore up their. Oh hang on we’re on adventure bikes so the rougher the better

When I took it off to straighten it back out, I found that it was KTM 3mm plastercein? aluminium, so I would not have noticed it. If I was looking for a bash plate for the 690, I definitely would not get the KTM product, I would get an after market B&B (or similar) unit made from high strength alloy.Mickp
August 24, 2011 at 12:56 pm #207576Great report and pics gentlemen.
I’m very disappointed I couldn’t make this ride especially after seeing the pics and reading the reports.
Well done Nick and TB for putting together what looked like another cracker of an ADV ride. I’m off to the shed to work on the Quinn

August 25, 2011 at 1:02 am #207621Sorry my report has taken so long but I have been very very busy
Ok so I left the Kings with Moose, we stopped and got essential ADV ride supplies, yup piss and a pie. Fueled the bikes and rolled into Nicks, we sat around waited for the others and talked shit and checked and rechecked our loads etc. Oh Moose didn’t, nothing stresses Moose check his rear tyre pre ride
Soon Lotsa and Mickp fronted, Lotsa is a nutter in his car, we watched him drive up Nicks rough arse driveway faster then we ride our bikes we just stood and watched the bikes in the trailer jump higher than when they ride them
Beers, and then a curry cooked by Nick was awesome, back down the shed we finished up and Mr Magoo below and Lotsa stayed to sleep we went up and spent way too much time trying to fix Nicks route and get it loaded on the GPSs which sort of didn’t work but did if that makes sense
We had bacon and egg rolls early and left, we rode some sweet forest tracks and trails, a quick break nearly 100kms
Walking around I noticed a helipad site
Still talking shit, waiting waiting lets go
Still waiting I am bored lets go
We fueled at the worlds slowest servo and left for Drake. Rocky River road is one of my top 5 rides and I jumped back into the lead and was having a ball, the road was damp and was offering a tone of traction.
We stopped and checked out an old hut
From there we ventured off onto upper Rocky River road and started going through gates and gates and heaps of gates. At this stage both my GPSs were on track and all was looking mighty fine. Great riding but it was getting harder to follow the track, oh the GPSs were still going strong but the grass was getting longer and the track fading faster than standard Tenere suspension. Then we came to a uncross able river, we looked at all our options, and checked a few places but no joy. We stopped for a break in ol mates paddock for a think
Moose made friends quickly
We decided we would have to head back and no sooner had we turned around we a land cruiser ute followed by a heap of dogs came over the hill.
This situation can go either way when a farmer finds about 6 bikers in his paddock.
As it turned out he was a top bloke and couldn’t help enough, he told us that the last flood had taken all the river crossings with it but he knew of a set of rapids that may be passable.
We followed him down to the river and I bought forth the Tenere, Moose on one side me on the other and Nick at the back we ventured into the water. The river bottom here was just one huge rock slab covered in green algae. There was no chance, we were only ankle deep and everyone was starting to slide. The middle of the river was knee deep so we would have drowned a bike for sure, and even if we had made it their was 50meters of boulders to navigate the other side. With the weather starting to close in we decided to head back the way we came and find another road to Glen Innes.
Some pimped cribs in the bush
From there we went back out to Rocky River road, onto Scrub rd and a wrong turn untold farmers paddocks, creek crossings and two locked gates we made it into Deep Water for fuel in the rain.
We thought we may venture west of Deep Water but the lady at the servo mentioned that snow was predicted that evening
We thought bugger camping and slabbed it straight into Glen Innes found a cheap but nice motel showered and went next door to the pub for a few beers and a great feed.Day 2 later
August 27, 2011 at 2:15 am #207196Day one
After great bacon and egg rolls we left Nicks place and it struck me that some of the road names were pretty accurate. There was Long Gully Road that twisted down a long gully, Rocky Creek Road that ran along a rocky creek and North Rock Creek Road, which was north of that. Then Scrub Road, which was in very closed in with scrub and a few bog hole. I got a bit worried when I saw Snake Valley Road but thankfully there was only the biggest bull I have ever seen guarding the road. But I have to tell you, if Nick lead us down a road called Broke Back Mountain Road, I was out a there. The river crossing. We didn’t want to see submerining ADV bikes
A road into the mountains. Always a good sign
Day two
Glen Innes departure. A damp start to the day
It was twenty minutes of overcast sky and Nick pointed us to the only piece of blue sky and apart from a bit of hail over Ebor (I think) it was fine for the rest of the day.
Regroup time
Day three
We left Bellbrook minus Moose and found ourselves having lunch at the Amble Inn. From there we went north along the coast over great rocky and boggy trails.I remember seeing MickP’s bike hit something on one of the rocky uphills and thinking, well I won’t take that line. That’s where you probably got the ding in your bash plate Mick.
A breath freshener back at Nick’s to finish off the ride and we were packed up and on our way.
Thanks to everyone for the great company and Nick for putting me up and leading duties.
