Hi all,
I’ve had a few bikes in the past but got back into them now that my son is old enough to
enjoy them as well. Years ago had a PE250 (remember them?) but found it way too toey. We lived a stones throw then from the Cessnock (NSW) MX track. Dad hated the noise but me and my brother loved it. We would go over there and do the track on our BMX’s. Had a few bikes at Uni then long hiatus until a few years ago.got back into it with a AG200 (don’t laugh!!!) Sadly gone
and a postie
then a XR600 (now we’re talkin)
and a XR250. Sorry no pic
Sold the XR600, 250, postie and Ag to get…………
2000 XR650r
and a WR450
Have some little tackers as well
Also a CFR100 for the son and eire.
XR is now a dual sport as the WR caters for my dirt stuff.
XR (2000) has not much done too it. Acerbis supertanker, Renthol bars, ballards rear rack and a home built side pannier rack for some Andy bags. Has a RAM mount for my Magellen or Garmin GPS’s. Rear tyre is a Michy’ “Sirac” and front is a Mitas EO7.
WR (2003)is pretty standard apart from Staintune full system, TAG fat bars with a Very high bend, RAM mount and cheapo rear tyre. I don’t want to spend to much on this otherwise I’d cry every time I drop it. It’s a steel frame jobby which suits me fine.
Thats all folks.
December 19, 2010 at 10:01 am #193026Good stiff NFHU !
The pics are great and what a luxury having the XR and WRF , you’ve got all rides covered!
Looks as though you’re surrounded by good country too!December 19, 2010 at 11:24 am #193027Nice assortment of bikes there mate.
Have you got any plans to do a few more things to the BRP?
December 19, 2010 at 7:06 pm #193028Thanks Fellas,
Nickj, I wanted two bikes to cover all my current bases. WR for the dirt and playing around my property and the XR for the road/ADV type riding. I don’t need a road bike as it wouldn’t go where it needs too
. Besides I have NEVER ridden a road bike.
Country looks good because of all the rain (rain, rain go away….) Getting in the way of harvest. Lucky I don’t farm any more. All my neighbours have been pretty ill affected by it
If you have a keen eye, in the photo of the 3 Yamahas you can see two Canola paddocks in the background. These are now rotting on the ground.
Kasuyaho, I have been following yours posts on ADV with interest. And your duals
As for future mods I’m not sure. For my needs it has plenty of get up and go so the standard pipe I’m happy with. Jetting may be next. Problem is I live at 400m but do alot of riding around here and up around Orange which is 8-900m so getting a jet combo to fit this may be tricky.Probably change the rear tyre to a 606 or try a Mefo. Get some 20-25mm bar risers (any suggestions?) Add some better lighting and a 12V outlet. Matbe some type of screen too.
To be honest I have been looking at getting rid of it and getting an ADV style twin eg Transalp or Veestrom, but I can’t see that happening for a while.
For me no other bike brings a smile to my face like the BRP and i know as soon as I get rid of it I’ll regret it. If only it had a button (yes, I know I’m soft!)
December 19, 2010 at 7:23 pm #193034Nice brace of bikes there!! Nice tidy XR!! Mine looked like that when I got it. Lotsa scratches now  .
Dont sell the pig before letting us here at OBT know!! We will do our best to talk you out of it, if that fails we probably can find someone to give it a loving home.
Cheers

I tried the bar raisers awhile ago and it was an improvement,
but being 6ft 1in tall it still did not feel right to me.It felt when i was standing when i got on the brakes i felt like i was going over the bars.
Sitting it was like there was no room.Moving the bars up and forward is the best way to go, and adding a steering damper is even more of a gain.
Talking to the yanks who raced Baja for many years the first things they did to this bike was change out the top clamp with a new one that moved the bars up and forward.
I run the MSC Rallye Clamp with under bar steering damper.
There a bit expensive but i liked it.
Have a look at Al Bakers XR’s only, they sell a top clamp as well as many other companies.Eric’s site is a good one for jetting.
Gary did the jetting guide and is an old Baja racer for many years.
He knows his stuff. QUADSAN was his nick on TT, do a search and read what he says.
You would use a 68S pilot jet with a 170 main jet, with standard pipe and no sidecover mod.
Put a HRC tip in the pipe and do the side cover mod, then go too a 172 main jet.
Float height at 18mm.
The trick to getting the carby right is keep turning out the mixture screw till the flat spot almost dissapears.D606 i tried one time out west, not a bad tire, alot of guys use it in Baja.
My prefference is D908 rear for long rides and wanting to go a little faster Michelin desert rear.
I used to use the Michelin Baja front but it is no longer being made, so i am trying a D907F front at the moment, heavy side walls i like which it has.
I like it so far.Betta bikes will do a stator upgrade and 100 watt head light kit and GPS/ grip heater output.
Basically a Rallye kit. This bike set up the right way with suspension done and a few others things is way better than a Transalp or VStrom.
If you want to get some where quick you can do it on the 650R.There is alot of BS out there on the internet.
I based my bike off Rallye bikes,
Rallye bikes are built and setup to do everything.December 22, 2010 at 8:03 am #193055Thanks Kasuyaho. I’m 6,1 as well so thats interesting what you say about lift and seperate in the cockpit. Ballards have a pretty good riser kit that allows back and forth from memory. Damper is out of my $$ atm.
I’ve e-mailed Betta re stator upgrades so waiting to hear from them as well. My local bike sparky (also a bike nut, finke etc)is yet to be fully convinced about running GPS’s through CDI bikes. Says the power is too “dirty’ for finer electronics and needs some work to make it “clean”. I’m patient.
Good point you made about the Rallye bikes. I want reliability, power and durability and a bit of speed thrown in as well. I’ve still got a fare few k’s to do before I get some more rubber but I’ll keep the 908’s in mind.
NFHU
And Mick, you’ll be first to know if I have a weak moment and decide to sell it.

This is what you get from Betta bikes,
new head light, 100 watt QH lamp, upgraded stator, that puts out 200 watt,
bigger regulator which is that silver square thing,
and a capacitor that is the blue thing, that cleans the dirty up.
Capacitors absorb the spikes in the power, also the gps has a battery that does the same thing. -
