    A couple of points in line with TBs rules;

A people please get your facts right on politics before you listen to the masses at the pub or the mass media cwap.

The employment stuff on ACA was downright lies, and they should be brought to task for it and many other lies told about all sorts of things.

Some employers are mongrels – Fact
    Some are So-So – Fact
    Some are great – Fact
    Same with unions

I am currently a smoker again after being off them for quite a few years I succumbed after a period of great mental stress last year, am in the process of giving up as we speak, not for Money (although it does help keep a good income down to an average income) but for my Family and me. I wanna see my grandkids, hell maybe even like my Grandparents even great grandkids, I want to be able to continue doing stuff like riding at 10/19ths when I feel like it without running out of energy in 5.3 nano-seconds, nothing stuffs your fitness up like Smoking. I smoked a packet a day until I was in my mid-twenties, and then 70 a day until about 10 years ago, I eat like a horse and my Genetics are Scots-Fijian-Japanese so while we are biggish but muscular in our youth we turn to fat and have heart problems as we age. Smoking makes it so much harder to stem that tide, so what is being done by sucessive political regimes is really in our best interests, and Dan while I love you like a Virtual electronic brother (without having ever met) Brother we are kidding ourselves if we think we are any better than a junkie when it comes to damamging ourselves, One of my younger brothers (there is 7 surviving boys and 1 girl in my Clan) was a Heroin user for ten years and a smoker for 20, he swears the smoking is harder to quit than Heroin was.

In the period I wasn’t smoking I was healhier, never had to go to the doctor, now again I have aches and pains in all old injuries, Get colds and Flu at the drop of a hat and even your looks go downhill.

It IS bad, about one of the worst things we can do.

    Re freedom of Speech:

Depends Scotty on which side you look at it from, i like you work with the law each and every day, but probably don’t have to go to court as often… :P

The Australian legal system is based on a fundamental belief in the rule of law, justice and the independence of the judiciary. All people—Australians and non-Australians alike—are treated equally before the law and safeguards exist to ensure that people are not treated arbitrarily or unfairly by governments or officials.

Principles such as procedural fairness, judicial precedent and the separation of powers are fundamental to Australia’s legal system.

The common law system, as developed in the United Kingdom, forms the basis of Australian jurisprudence. It is distinct from the civil law systems that operate in Europe, South America and Japan, which are derived from Roman law. Other countries that employ variations of the common law system are the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Malaysia and India.

Our lrgal system is skewed towards the greater good for the many, rather than the priveledges of the individual and that is where there is a great gulf betwix us and the psyche’ of the citizens of the USofA, they protect the rights of the individual, we the rights of the masses.

OK this thread is re opened but there are some rules

    – no political views none its not needed or welcome here at OBT not now not ever. When discussed there are no winners only upset people

    – No more the “F” word in the bullpit or on the site, if you need to use it, use something along the lines of F*#K this is to prevent members losing access at their work places

    – The topic here in this thread is Dan’s bunger prices not Boony’s yellow shit boxes, police, freedom of speech, kevin rudd etc

    TB

fair enough on all accounts bar the swearing…

just about everyone i know has sworn on this site, especially in the bullpit, where as far as i believed, it was acceptable.
we are all grown men and like to emphasize with the odd expletive.

i believe it is a bit harsh that everyone must now stop and rethink their way of expressing themselves for the sake of “a few” that have issues with IT in the workplace.

maybe those members should take it upon themselves to not look in the bullpit whilst at work, instead of it changing the whole feel of the site and more specifically, the bullpit and its more evil subsiduarys, like the cowpatt.

the only rule in there was the C word was taboo and so it should be.

if workplace IT filters ban words like F**K, then you had may as well turn your PC off and go read a golden book, most grown ups websites, especially ones that involve blokes and motorbikes are littered with profanitys.

take a look in the “Words, sayings and things that should be banned from OBT” thread, from only 3 months ago, no one thought back then that swearing wasnt kosher….

it has been that way for 2 years, why change now???

I must say that I learnt the hard way by having my 6 year old daughter close by when I open the bullpit on my birthday and she read something that was definatly posted as a joke from a person whom meant no harm,

I forgot the golden rule,,the bullpit is a sacred place and not for the eyes of kids and bosses.

we have a special thing happening here,,

    my say

im glad we had this quiet moderator discussion too.

i still think those affected shouldnt partake in the bullpit whilst at work if it causing them grief.

its a simple way to stop the problem isnt it…

and doesnt effect anyone and everyone.

its censorship gone mad, with a healthy dose of hypocracy added for a sour twist.

    what bu11$hit

whats next, a ban on the word Honda….

i for one think that is a filthy swear word only spoken by heathen folk :P

im sure there is a quiet minority that would agree but take steps to work around it… ;)

Sorry for any inconvenience (spelling) caused to anyone. The jist of it was I was dirty about the price of bungers going up. I will kerb my outward rants from now on and keep them to myself.

I am still cranky regarding the price of the gaspers going up, whether they are good, bad or indifferent for you, I still enjoy a smoke and a beer. Should in my later years I pay for my addiction, well I will cross that bridge when I come to it.

Bruce you are a very smart man, I respect what you say in your posts and look forward to the day that I may meet you. I write this with all sinceraty (spelling again, I know)

To the administration team and moderators, I appoligise once again for this thread and my crappy spelling.

Hey Dan, on the bright side you can warrant your ciggies still by thinking, that the new tax is only 10c extra a smoke, doesn’t sound so expensive then does it?

Unfortunately it doesn’t quite work like that Menace, whether or not a person looks at the bullpit or not,the filters will look at the site as a whole and deem it inappropriate if the site is rife with profanities. AS you know I am no angel when it comes to using choice Australian adjectives in the spoken word (and like most blokes I get worse the more I drink)but as a site profile and an image thing, I feel that we should look at this issue and curb the swearing to a degree. It takes little effort to write f#@k in a manner that filters wont pick up but still get the general feeling across.

    My two bobs worth.

    Morning gentlemen,
Dan I understand even feel a bit the way you do about imposts on smokes, but I see the root reason why they did this again, and I reckon if you need to rant Mate, get on and do it, no-one was offended (well not I )and it’s healthy.

Menace my good friend, Michael D Esq is indeed correct we have “smart” filters that scans the whole site, wholus bolus and if it finds any signs of unsuitable material it is added to the banned list. I cannot access NineMSN pages from here now, or several other motorcycle forums, because of words as mentioned earlier.

TB while we have your attention, when are you coming back up this way for work? ya big slacker basically drives past my place each time…. gees I dunno.. honda riders, it’s illegal to hunt them down, yet somehow you feel they’re almost human……..

I agree with you Mick. The odd word here and there is ok to really get a point across but heaps of them causes some issues.

i respect your point mick, but it makes no sense to me.

the site is already “rife with profanities” as you state.

if the smart filters pick these up, old or new, then you would have to delete half the site…and good luck with that!!!

i hate it when things go all girly
