February 23, 2014 at 8:52 am #254489What a day !
Was good to put faces too names today and go on my first old bull ride ! Must say was not a disappointment ! Was made to feel welcome and can’t wait for the chance to go again. The conditions where as good as they get. Plenty of grip and a but of dust in the usual places!
I learnt today front tyres are over rated and you can cover a fair amount of ground ( a km from the start point to the berry patch to be exact ) with a flat front as long as the tyre doesn’t run off the rim.
Thanks to all you blokes for inviting me along on the ride! Had a pearler of a time !February 23, 2014 at 10:13 am #254491You’re more than welcome any time Nathan.
The day started out pretty bad for me having to carry Gumby for the first half of the ride and he made me pay for it a couple of times with having a couple of offs. But once we hit the Berry Patch I kicked him off and I think he found a DRZ to climb onto as I had a great ride back to the cars.
As Nathan has said it was a bit dusty out in the open, but once we got back under the cover of the trees it was just superb conditions:- no dust and damp loamy soil that had plenty of grip.
I absolutely enjoyed the day.
Thanks Paul, Boony and Snowy for leading for the day and thanks Super Sweep Damus for for cleaning up at the back as usual. Also thanks to Ranger Rick for taking over from Damus when he had to lead a downed bike out.
I can’t forget all the other riders that showed up to make the ride so good.Buzz

Hey boony I see ur signature says ktm350 when did you swap from the 250?
February 23, 2014 at 10:15 am #254482A great day started at Maccas for a drive-through breakfast, then on to our meeting place at 6:30am. The usual piss taking commenced on time as always. Boony’s new bike that was not blue was the topic that got everyone going. Good to see that Damus has the recovery ability of a 27 year old NRL player on “vitamins” after his get off not long ago. Headed to the Hills of Gold and upon arrival unloaded with a few new faces and new bikes. The morning weather was tipically Nundle, bloody awesome, cold and a bit damp from the rain we have had recently. The ride started with some singles that with the ground conditions meant you could plant your foot on a switch back, throttle, flick clutch and move a nice loamy patch of turf from the ground and into the rider behinds upper torso. This continued till I was given the chance to ride the new Sherco 300 4 stroke. I hate riding other mates bikes espically when they are brand spanking new. Mat hadn’t even finished offering me his ride before I had already started asking where the start button was. First impressions, bear in mind I ride a KLX400 and can’t ride to save myself, were – Light, bloody light. Compact and a feeling that given its lower ride height to what I am used to, a simple dab of the foot would save you from a possible piss taking. Great power too. Thanks Mat. We had a few flats, touch wood I haven’t had to take out the levers yet. We got to the Berry Patch for luch which is always great and very much appreciated. That’s when myself and one other (no names of course) thought we would grab a red fuel drum from the back of the shed to top up. Turns out after “the other” had put in 3 litres it was my turn. But after I popped in the first splash which was blue and smelt like diesel we had a closer look at what was penciled on the top of the red can. Yep “diesel”. So the ride back had a 450 and a 400 blowing smoke like the KTM 2 strokes. Smelt like farm machinery. The ride back from the berry patch is fantastic. Great grip and great single track. We had a crack at the new singles which have been very very very well cut in. Sh@t they have been cut in well. Loamy and bermed, I almost felt fast on them. Awesome. My day was cut a little short when I picked up a rock in the radiator. The best thing about riding with Old Bulls was that even though I knew the main road back to the cars I was chaperoned by the fine young bull Boony. Even if his bike isnt blue. Thanks to all for a great ride. Hats off to the leads and sweeps. Got to love the never ending Boony, Snowy, Buzz and everyones sh@t canning.
February 23, 2014 at 6:18 pm #254483Good report Luke,
Great ride, Thanks for setting it up Paul & Boony did a bit. Damus in tough, what else can you say.
Great to be back on the bike, thanks to all for a great day, only 2 offs and had a ball.
Must do it again one day.
Thanks for the lift up Buzz.R Rick.
February 23, 2014 at 8:25 pm #254496As the boys have said it was a great ride, but once again weird shit has happened at Nundle.
About two months ago, Boony and I decided to cut a new set of singles to complete a loop with our existing singles and Damus and I have been working on them since then. So imagine you have what is basically a two km trail through the forest that is basicly nothing more than an arrowed track marked by bike tyres. Then yesterday I turned onto this said trail to be greeted by a graded 1.5 m wide roadway that followed every twist and turn of the trail leaving a billiard table smooth bermed trail. It went the full length of the trail including through a gulley and around log windrows. Turns out some other Tamworth rider had found our trail and decided it would be better if he ran a bobcat over it– and he was right!!. It went from a technical single trail to an absolute blast through the forest. We have to find this bloke and lead him around some of our other trails or better stil get our own bobcat to cut trails instead of walking , moving logs and getting eaten by leaches.
On the ride side of the day it was great not leading the whole way which allowed some good racing with Boony , his 350 was no quicker than my Cr in the tight singles but it has some very good grunt out in the more open stuff leaving me in his dust. Its also bloody quiete so you cant hear the bastard is right up your clacker and your first knowledge of where he is when he goes past you, thats got to be outside the spirit of trail riding.
February 23, 2014 at 10:33 pm #254497Ive got to say… hunting for Luke in the singles…little bit of salemanship you know what I mean.
Well bugger me if the KKK wasnt hard to catch. Dont keep putting yourself down about this mate. your quick you just need a more nimble bike. (kato Sherco CRF whatever) Sherco.
But your quick man the rest of the boys will backme up here.
Get off the KKK big fella cause if you can wield it like that in the singles…and I rode it to make sure…pushing trees over bobcat style sitting on the command deck of the HMAS KKK. not easy brother. Thanks to Pauly (Deceptorcon) looks like hes cruising till you try and catch him. Thanks for leading
Damos  as always.
Thanks to my brother WIz for coming over and again having to go home before I get a headache from laughin so much happy birthday wizzard.February 24, 2014 at 8:46 am #254501Well I think the boys have said it. Great to ride without dust :woohoo: . Nice new singles in there that will be great once cut in. Fun squirting with a few even if they were blue. Good to see some testing their machines on diesel but hey they really stink, you can smell em a mile off.
Some of the shit I seen being pulled off was bullshit, there is no way my tyres were gripping like that. Well done.Luke on a Sherco well I did say he when flying past us front wheel about chest hight.
February 24, 2014 at 8:57 am #254505Gotta agree with Booze, the boys are riding well lately.
