will be happy to contribute via donations, annual site fees, more seal aver donations (dont want Ollie taking all the glory!!!
)
If bike shops (or any shops) could contribute any bit of merchandise to raffle off monthly or something of the sorts, i would buy raffle tickets all the time.
Nothing like winning a meat tray for the weekend BBQ!!!Might even make a donation before i go riding on Saturday.
April 30, 2009 at 11:37 am #131644After our successful Anzac Bash Everyone who had a feed of snags gave me some coin, I think I came out about $10 in front;) I will also pledge this to OBT. Maybe worth considering in future trail rides.

April 30, 2009 at 11:39 am #131643I’m only very new here but after one ride I feel like I’ve gained a lot out the place already and will hopefully continue to which makes me think it might be a good idea to have a sticky at the top of each ride gathering or report thread saying something like “Please donate whatever you think this service is worth to you”. It’d be an easy way for new blokes and regulars to justify the expense IMO.
Maybe we should set up the donation amount based on what you ride? Of course us KTM riders wouldn’t be able to put much up since we’re all broke from fixing our expensive, unreliable bikes right?

Shirt we all know what the donation is for so i think putting a minimum shouldnt upset anyone.O.K I’ll try and explain best I can, currently the cost of running the site per year is approx $1800.00 this is based on our current usage, which is growing every month, this also includes things such as domain registration, business name registration, banking fees, accountancy fees (KYLIE?) and Rum for our Directors meetings.
We have increased bandwidth this month by over 25%, we are also considering a dedicated Old Bull server which will give us a huge storage capacity for things like photo galleries, screen savers, downloads etc. I don’t think this is anywhere near exorbitant compared to other sites I run which can run up bills of 10’s of thousands of dollars per year. We have through various contacts managed to keep the running expenses very low so far, unfortunately their is only so much we can achieve at reduced costs before we start abusing our contacts who have helped us thus far. We in no way are out to profit from this site but as you can understand nor do we wish to go broke doing it. As we are a registered not for profit club any money left over after expenses needs to be spent on the club, where it be prizes, giveaways, merchandise etc. The prizes we have had so far have been organised mostly By TB grovelling to suppliers for Freebies which he has done an amazing job at and we have established some good relationships from this. Also not to blow my own trumpet but the countless hours put in looking after the technical side of the website is all donated time of my own which I neither expect praise or money for as does TB but is done merely for our own passion of the sport. The whole idea of this site is to make new friends, ride motorbikes (obviously) and have a lot of fun times. The donations are purely voluntarily and in no way do we want to restrict access to the site in anyway. We are not after recouping the costs of the previous year but as the site gets bigger and bigger so do the bills. So donate what you think and we will come up with something shortly.
Cheers and thanks for your support
Chris & TB.

Hey Gili, TB is working with a bike shop at the moment for a monthly prize and also a possible sponsorship deal, the problem with sponsorship deals is we need to support the shops that do help us out, which obviously we have no control over. The shop has a very good service and a great reputation in the industry. We had a thought to put a tin on a table for the big rides and you can put your loose change in after you buy yours and my beers.
The bottom line is we do need to support those that support us otherwise that won’t continue their support.Cheers

AnonymousWell it almost brings a tear to my eye logging on this morning and seeing all the positive comments that everyone has written. On top of that there has been some great ideas.
A big thanks to all who have donated. Like Chris and TB have said, the donation is exactly that, a donation. Please donate what you feel happy with donating. Some people may donate more than others which is great, but it isn’t a competition and at the end of the day all donations are greatly appreciated and help the site grow without financially crippling TB and Chris!

April 30, 2009 at 11:33 pm #131554Important
Everyone that has made a financial contribution to the running and maintaining of the site will now be recognised with a special ranking under their name / avatar, site sponsor with the green dots for go site!. You will have to make sure you PM me letting me know you have made a donation, not how much that’s not so important, just that you have so we can update your ranking.
Thank you to all that have donated
Below is just a bump of the opening thread
Since the site started 11 months ago the site costs have been picked up by Chris and Myself, these costs at first haven’t been much and we have funded the site from our own pockets and been happy enough to do so.
We purchased stubbie holders that Chris and I paid for, the stickers we had some help from Mick and Crash and Ollie and Gilli helped by donating some seal savers that they made, and we have recovered some of those costs (not all)We have received some good and bad news today, that is that OBT has grown and this is good news because it opens so many doors for all of us on the site, its easy to get on a ride with like mined people, get technical advice, deals through shops, help on all sorts of things, have a chat, catch up out side motor bikes and make good friends. And all of this is free, the likes of a Hillend Ride with a tour company would cost you $350 minimum, how do you cost 3 days at Wauchope or the up coming Caves to Caves ride. I have ridden with tour companies and they do a great job, but our rides are every bit as good, with support vehicles, great tracks and people you know.
Now the Bad news, all of this comes at a cost, we have had to increase our bandwidth where our site is hosted, previously our bandwidth has sat at about 10-12gb per month now we have gone over that and we need to increase it to around 25gb per month, this is only one cost we have, also we pay for our name registration, e mail name, server costs etc
We are asking for your help to keep this wonderful tool for us all going, OBT is registered as a not for profit organisation and will always remain that way whilst ever Chris and I own it, we don’t make money from this and our goal is for it always to remain a free site but we need help with these costs
We are asking for donations to help us pay, we know that times are tough but we want to keep this growing and remaining the way it is now, if you can spare $5, $10, $50 or even $100 whatever please help in the grand scheme of what you get in return its very very cheap if you think about it.
Donations can be made by bank transfer to the account below:
National Australia Bank
BSB: 082-774
A/C: 675433410
Account Name: Cheque
Name (if required): G Yager
Description: OBT fund 888If you wish to PM me and let me know its done and through or you can remain nameless, it doesn’t matter no one will know besides us
We will in the future have a paypal tab on the site that you can make paypal donations at any time but for now we will do it by bank transfer
All donations will be remain private
If you wish to pay by cheque or cash please PM me and we can organise it
TB & Chris
