LeftyJuly 24, 2011 at 10:19 am #205372The report Part 1
First of all, a huge thanks to the OBT crew that made the effort to spend the weekend at Mt Seaview, sweeping the State offroad titles, as it turned out, it was a fantastic advertisement and PR exercise for OldBull Trailriders. The whole team should be proud of themselves for the way they conducted themselves and got in and did a fantastic job, considering at first we were playing it by ear.
I wont dwell on all the legal bullshit from the greenies that nearly saw the event cancelled at literally the 11th hour. That is another report on its own.
Anyhow several of us travelled in convoy from Wauchope to Seaview and when we arrived at 3.30 it was already a hive of activity. We claimed a spot for the Oldbulls and started unpacking, which also saw Moose and Kram crack a beer each.
No sooner had they cracked a beer, Protty (the organizer) lobs in our camp and says ”Come on, a couple of you guys kit up and come with me”. “We have to pre run the seniors course”.DPY4 (AKA Spud), Kram and myself kitted up and were ready to roll by 4pm and we headed off with Protty straight up into the bush, to sweep the 11km course.
By the time we started to head back down the mountain, darkness had started to set in and that really kept you on your toes, dodging obsticles that you could only just see at the last minute in the darkness. The trail conditions were fantastic after a week of rain and that set the scene for a fantastic weekend of off-road racing. When we got back to camp several more Old bulls had arrived and we said our hellos and cracked a beer or two. Friday night was a great night sitting around the fire bench racing, despite a few brief showers.
This fireplace is where there was plenty of great stories told
Fossil telling Moose that it is time he should be in bed, Moose is protesting.
The excitement level was high, especially when the boys realized the tall leggy blonde, with what we decided weren’t her real breasts, was actually sharing the bunk house with us and was sleeping in the same room.
Adam and Rebore, no doubt checking out the blonde.
The boys behaved relatively well and only played up until midnight, as they knew we had to be kitted up and on the track by 7am, to sweep both the junior and senior tracks and then ride all day and be the last blokes off the track Saturday arvo.

The Campsite
Saturday dawned clear with one of the best rainbows I have ever seen and that set the scene for the whole weekend. The blonde was up early too, threatening to cut the throat of that little bastard that snored all night.
A” bit dusty” Moose kits up for a big day ahead.
The team was all kitted up and at the command site right on time.
Moose and Little Dickie prepare for action
The command site
The group was split in two, with a couple of us pre running the junior course whist the rest helped Protty do some last minute adjustments to the senior course.
Me getting ready to lead the juniors out on their parade lap.
When we say “the junior course” don’t get the idea that it was an easy course by any means, this was a “State level course” in any mans book. It was 8kms of big rocky hills, tight single (read very tight), greasy off camber corners and some very challenging snotty gullies. This alone made me glad I was riding the YZ and not the XR.
Come race time, I lead the 65cc group out on their sighting lap, some of these kids can really ride, bearing in mind that the course was challenging enough on a full sized bike, I could only imaging how big some of the obsticles were to these kids with 12” wheels.
On one of the big up hills I thought it best if I put a gap on the lead kid so as not to roost him on the way up. I was fairly hooting along when all of a sudden a rock took out my front wheel and I hit the deck for the first of my come offs for the weekend.
No harm done and I managed to get the 65’s back in time to start their race proper.
Gassit did a great job sweeping the senior loop most of the day
Fossil with Jan the clerk of the course.
Part of “Pit Lane”
Toes, on his daughters Husky 250 heads out on a loop
Kram ready to head out
Protty on the quad, he was every where all weekend and the event was a credit to him
Ollie doing his bit on a borrowed DRZ
What’s doing here Ollie???
Fossil heading down one of the greasy singles
One of the competitors heading down the same hill. It gives you and idea how steep it was.
Dickie, on a YZ125, was pulling the same lap times as some of the Pros!!!!
Some trail pics Connor took.
Grass track action

July 24, 2011 at 12:01 pm #205379Great report so far Mick , looking forward to the rest.
Ya lucky buggers !!
July 24, 2011 at 12:58 pm #205380What a top weekend!!!
Firstly I like to thank Mick for organising to have OBT sweep at this event. It was a lot of fun and some hard work as well, but a great weekend.
The tracks were great and the racing even better. Watching Merrimen, Hollis and co go at it all weekend soom showed me how slow I really am  I couldn’t even keep up with the juniors and they were on 65cc :S
It was a great team of OBT to hang with for the weekend and I had a lot of laughs. Top stuff.
The venue was excellent and I can’t wait to go back for some more ride time.
I’ll write more when my brain starts working again.

July 24, 2011 at 1:07 pm #205381Top report so far Mick.
Well done to everyone that attended.
Looks like an awesome track too.
July 24, 2011 at 1:18 pm #205382The Old Bull spirit was alive and well on the weekend. Our guys were there ready to offer a hand to anyone having trouble as Kram demonstrates here.
July 24, 2011 at 1:44 pm #205358I agree with Mick, it was a fantastic weekend.
I had some small issues to start with, leaving my helmet at home for one.
A big thanks to the young bloke at Mud and Tar that sold the embarrassed old guy a new lid.
OBT discount and all, couldn’t have done that thru the internet.Saturday started with a quick bunting party on the seniors loop and then back to start the sweep duties.
I was on the junior loop although i thought by the look of it i was actually on the seniors.
First job was to fix a mis-aligned chain on a KTM for a very polite young rider who gave a big thanks as he took off.
Couple of sweep loops and it was time to help out in the bog with the some of the OBTs
I spent the rest of the day there pushing bikes, sliding down into the creek and having quite a few laughs.
The bog was that bad at the end of saturday we were pushing 125s and old bulls out of it.Sunday we were up bright and early again for the sprint series.
I lead out the 65s for the sighting lap and then broke in at varies times to sweep behind the 85s.
I had my turn off the bike and in the trees which was all good fun.
The junior track was great with a few races between Old Bulls at times.
I was rounded up by Protty on one corner which scared the SH#T out of me.:S
It was another long day but what a great day, good weather, good track, good people.I have never swept an event before so this was a first.
I’d do it again in a heart beat if i get the chance.
Not only did i get to ride but i felt like i had contributed to make the event run smoothly which was pretty satisfying.
Mick is right when he said that it was good for OBT profile.
I had quite a few riders and parents ask me if we were a professional group of marshalls and if we did other events.
Admittedly these people did not visit us during our bench racing around the fire at night so we probably had them fooled. 😆As always the OBT guys that i met were all good blokes, just as quick with a joke and a laugh as they are to help.
I don’t think it can be said enough it was a great weekend.
:cheer:
Oh! for all you blokes that missed out.
Rebore.
July 24, 2011 at 2:20 pm #205383Thats real funny Mick, nice of Stefan to play along….
July 24, 2011 at 2:37 pm #205384That looks awesome, what a great weekend it must have been, Kram i reckon you’d whip stefan in a tyre changing contest any day..
Chris.
July 24, 2011 at 2:53 pm #205385After the racing was finished on Saturday arvo, Moose and I had to go to the top of the mountain to retrieve a Land Cruiser Wagon for the owner of Mt Seaview. Moose doubled me up there on a quad and it was the longest and roughest 10km of my life!!
When we finally arrived back, the boys were already into the refreshments and we wasted no time joining them!!
As the evening rolled on, so did the traditional OBT party, so much so, it appeared to be the place to be and other people came over and joined in the party. We had a fantastic night laughing our heads off!
Toes and Spud got into the spirit of things and kept us laughing all night.
It was a bloody good fire!
In no time it was midnight and I looked around and it was only Spud, Kram, Moose and myself left holding the fort!! I snuck off to bed at this stage.
5am saw me out of bed with a throbbing head ache, ratting around in my car looking for anything with paracetamol in it. Spud came to the rescue and in no time I was good to go.
7am saw us at the command post ready to ride again. (amazing story but true)
Kram arriving back after his first run on Sunday
Little Dickie and me about to follow the 85’s out on their pre sprint parade lap
Rebore and me returning back to the Command
Some shots that Dickies Missus took of riders riding like we don’t.
Hollis.
Mad roost
Racing finished by about 2.30pm.
A couple of pics of rebore and me reflecting on what a great weekend it was.
Chris Hollis won the weekend out right, only 4 seconds separated him and Stefan Merriman over the two days racing.
Another view over the property. At 7000 acres Mt Seaview is an awesome property!
The swimming hole at the camp ground.
Ralph, the owner of Seaview was at me all weekend, wanting the Old Bulls to have a weekend up there in October. So keep an eye out as we will most likely hold a poker run up there in October.
We love Mount Seaview and have laid claim to the bunk house!!My only regret about the whole weekend is that it had to finish!!!
Fanbloodytastic weekend!!!!
On a side note, I did see a sad thing on the way home. Some poor buggers had a 4 bike enclosed trailer come off the tow bar and leave the road and barrel of into a creek. It had entered the creek at a fairly high speed from what I could see as the A frame on the trailer was completely embedded in the creek bank on the other side.
Not a good way to end a great weekend for those guys.July 24, 2011 at 3:32 pm #205386I uploaded about 150 pics last night and will post some more later.
Here are a couple more
Moose in his usual “thumbs up” pose
Sam negotiating one of the rutted mud holes.
July 24, 2011 at 4:59 pm #205391It looked like you guys had fun, but wheres the pic of the blonde with fake titties?
