My comments were not directed at you. It was a general comment and observation.

July 27, 2011 at 8:10 pm #205613No offence but politics are a very big factor in maintaining riding areas. Probably not so much in the Seaview arena, as it is more local residents and we are dealing with private property. But in the end it is state and federal governments which will introduce legislation to restrict this sport, both on private and public land.
I’ve been through this all before with fishing and the introduction of marine parks years ago, I’ve attended numerous public forums, council meeting and been on advisory committees, as such I am well aware of the influence minority groups have over local, state and federal authorities.
I rode my first single track in the late 70’s with my dad and his brother. That riding area and many like it are no longer available. When my kids are older I want the same opportunities for them and not be restricted to a crowded bike park and as such I am very passionate about assisting where I can, in every state of Aus.
Slightly off topic, but many of the people on here ride the Clarence, sunny corner area, as I have for 30 odd years. Currently there is one group who are very active in pushing for the area to be rezoned, so as to prevent both 4WD and motor cycles use. I have a good friend who is a member of the group and although our views may differ slightly he keeps me up to date with what is going on. The group has recently (In his words) had some promising correspondence with a NSW MP, the details of which you won’t see posted on their web site for obvious reasons.
Complacency is the biggest issue in all sports and off road riding appears to be no different. As far as Sea View goes I have sent correspondence to the council and have made contact with friends who work and live in the area to do the same. I won’t bother posting any further in this topic.July 27, 2011 at 8:22 pm #205619I see your point Nathax. I hope you didn’t take offence as none was intended.
I agree whole heartedly, it is a very political issue along with the marine parks as well.
The no politics policy we have here at OBT also includes religon. As some people seem to be very passionate on these two subjects and it seems to start more trouble than it is worth. That is why we try to minimise the party specific political debates.
This whole topic deserves its own thread as it has deviated away from the original topic of how good a weekend the boys had at Seaview.Admin.

I would consider myself a bit of a Greeny as I believe a Carbon Tax is a good idea, I believe global warming is real and population control is an issue that needs to debated. We cannot continue to treat the earth the way we are.
I am also a keen motorcycle rider and believe we must find a balance between what we enjoy and our responsibility as global citizens.I feel the important point are;
1. Respect and be tolerant of other people opinions.
2. Promote our sport in a positive light.
3. Do not bitch about and make generalisations about individuals or groups that oppose our sport.
4. Be willing to debate and negotiate.A few points Fossil.
I am a conservationist, I have been involved and planted literally thousands of trees, rehabilitated whole forest parcels, and in this area I am not unusual… but i was still branded a rapist and pilager by a crowd of protestors on several occassions, had human faeces thrown at us, sugar and sand put in fuel tanks of machinery and been vilified in parliament.
In my experience the tolerant reasonable conservationist is what you describe yourself as, but I would not label you a green.
Maybe it is locality, but everything that this area looks like getting up and running, rallies, bike meetings, plantation logging, gas exploration, anything is met with unyeilding screams from the same core groups…..as admin says this IS politics, but not party, it is the politics of humans, the will to exert power over others in most cases…..

No more here, there are threads here that fit the above views, opinions and dribble from all angles. Find them or start another, but be warned no politics. This thread is about some good work done for the sport and charity by our members no more warnings.
