So what’s the verdict? Now that the clutch pulled that caper and got all hot on me, do I open the case and check the plates? The clutch seems to be working fine now.

Change the oil and filter, adjust the feel travel to spec and ride it Mick, buy a beta trials bike if you go in there again

Will drop the oil this arvo and see what story the filter holds.
The XR was quite capable at getting through the track, as gnarly as it was, the main reason it over heated I believe was that it sat idling for some time pointed up hill while I waited for the track to be clear of other bikes.
Anyone that has ridden an XR600 knows if you are on the side of a snotty hill, it is best to keep her running!!

    Funny you should mention oils…

When I had the XR I used synth oil, semi-synth oil, mineral oil…almst every oil at some point! But I changed it REALLY regularly, more often than not after every ride. When I pulled it down to put the 280 kit in it she was SO clean! I never adjusted the valves but did check them regularly.

Now with the Vor? She gets new crap oil after every ride. I dn’t think I’ve ever put expensive oil in it, I can’t justify the cost since it’s changed so frequently. That thing also is still very clean with excellent compression and stable valve clearances.

I’ll stick with cheap oil flshed through regularly.

Well said Shane,,Another way to look at things.. There is sense in that statement.

Then again I just put one of Ollies’ fancy stainless fllters in the XR so I just went to the fish and chip shop and got some of their old oil.

I dunno I just changed the oil and it looked a bit blacker than normal and the filter was good but I took it for a run and all seems sweet???
Just one of those things I suppose.
