ive heard it done before, but in my opinion when it comes to something that protects your engine especially the titanium valved 4 strokes why chance it with something that is meant to be eaten or cooked with. I dont think I would consider doing it,a litre of Motorex filter oil costs about $30 that will last me at least 6-9 months maybe longer.

Yep that plus the skins for me, I wouldn’t be using Canola Oil, just doesn’t sound right, although we are now using pool filter skins to protect our air filters Go figure.

Yeah, I’ve heard of this and I think i can even remember an article in a Mag about it. Thing is, I paid best part of 12 large for my bike. If i take out the bits like frame, wheels, forks, swingarm, brakes lights etc, get left with the engine. That engine makes up a BIG part of that cost. A litre of filter oil is way cheaper. guess what I’m trying to say is,” no matter that I read it, no matter that someone who rides bikes tossed to them, i wont take the chance of dusting my motor for the sake of a few $’s saved”. :( I just cant bring myself to try it??

I think it would do the job, I question whether it would do it like the specifically designed oils out there. As others have said, for a small cost saving it’s not worth grenading your engine.

Your local KTM dealer will sell Motorex. If not you can use the spray from BelRay, seems to do the job too. Although messy, I think the oil you dip your filter into is the best.
