Don’t bother, as OMO or the likes works just as good (and makes your filter smell nice LOL.)January 16, 2009 at 3:30 am #118504

Quote:OMO as in washing machine powder?Yep,that is the stuff. I use it all the time to clean the filters as one of those little No Toil bottles of cleaner is about $9.00 and washing powder costs about that much for a Kilo.

AnonymousSo you just hand mix it with warm water in the sink? Tell me you don’t put it in your washing machine!?

Quote:I think it would do the job, I question whether it would do it like the specifically designed oils out there. As others have said, for a small cost saving it’s not worth grenading your engine.Your local KTM dealer will sell Motorex. If not you can use the spray from BelRay, seems to do the job too. Although messy, I think the oil you dip your filter into is the best.
The thing thats makes me stay away is just that Moto. Filter oil is VERY Tacky..sticky…canola oil isnt. However, being oil, yu’d think it’d jam up dust anyway…Another choice is the stuff that UNI filter use. And Castrol make some decent filter oil too.
January 16, 2009 at 8:28 am #118530yep soap powder and chuck them in washing machine then put in hot water cupboard to dry

AnonymousI’m sure you’d get away with the washing machine here and there, I’m not sure I’d do it all the time though. Even for the machine’s sake!
March 30, 2009 at 9:55 am #118696my missus would nail my nuts to the floor if i did that!
quick question, my husky has the flame guard between the filter and the intake mouth, and it all fits together very snug, do i need to grease both sides of the flame guard? i’ve pulled and cleaned my filter a few times now and i haven’t bothered with the grease, just shell filter oil.
cheers,
paul.March 30, 2009 at 11:32 am #127377does that mean that youve gotta use extra virgin olive oil on VORs and Vespas.

paul.If the flame arresters sits directly between the filter and intake I would grease that. Especially if it’s plastic on plastic contact and could leave a little space for shit to get in.
Basically grease all contact surfaces where dust could get into the intake
April 1, 2009 at 8:05 am #127636no worries, thanks moto.
