Update on APC preparations……………
Made good use of three day long weekend that had foul weather and got stuck into stripping down the bike in preparations for the Rally.
First job was checking the steering head bearings……it confirmed that the bearing were in need of replacing…. now I know why I was having trouble steering….well I’m blaming the bearings
Next job was installing my new Eagle Screen (400mm – touring) and you will notice I put an Old Bull sticker above the headlight……
Next was to check the valve clearances………. the exhaust valves were both to tight but the intake valves were ok
The accelerator and clutch cables were lubed up and we ran a spare clutch cable as precaution and a new spark plug was installed.
Next was to mount the GPS and 2-way radio and it’s associated power cable… (may need to rethink the mounting of 2-way)
but noticed the subframes had some cracks in the arse end of the bike. I put that down to ………… not my big butt ………. but maybe loading up the back on past long adventure rides carrying all my stuff (including tools).
So the subframe had to come off and sent to welders to stiffen up the frame
The bike felt a bit naked
So by Monday afternoon the bike was in bits and waiting for subframe to come back….. hope to have it all back together for Sunday’s ride….
Will keep you posted on further preparations activities…. have decided to wait a week before the ride to spend the day with Amy / TB and Steve Adventure Moto – to do wheel bearings, chain, sprockets, pads, oil change and air filter…. the rest will be done between now and then….

Mallee – my nails are a lost cause…. at the moment things a looking up if my nails are clean and have no sign of grease under them….
Report on my weekend of working on the bike…
Got the subframe back from the welder and he did a great job….
Installed GPS, 2-way and heated grips on the bar and ran the appropriate power to the battery. You can see the high/low heated grip switch under the 2-way.
The screen protects the GPS and 2-way….. as you can see I’m a proud and loud Old Bull-ette by the sticker on the front.
Next was to repack the exhaust… took lots a WD40 and patience to get the 4 screws out…. plus a few glasses of wine
Lastly the Giant Loop had all its seams sealed which was a slow process but one worthwhile…
So only things left to do are:
Replace front/rear wheel bearings
Replace cush drive bearings and rubbers
New chain and sprockets (from Chaingang 15/40)
Oil change
Air Filter
Install front fender bag (locked in) with tyre changing equipment
Do a final review of my toolkitJune 17, 2012 at 7:10 pm #224389That is so great to see you girls living the dreem

Cheers Teza.June 17, 2012 at 10:12 pm #224430Wow I had better get into gear and give details of my bikes prep.
Kat you’re a machine with all your work on your bike. BTW, is that three bikes I count in the living room? That’s dedication to have them all in your house!!!
Well my little WR250R has gone through a rather large transformation in the last month or so. Prior to starting to set it up for the APC it was rather a stock standard WRR, but now with a lot of help from my mate Dan, it’s now almost ready. Also Steve from Adventure Moto and TB has provided a huge amount of parts and advice (Steve let me raid one of his old WRR’s for some parts).
So here it is before…….
Then mid way through the work
This is wiring in GPS, heated hand grips and 12V Charger. Also small mods to let it breath a bit better.
Meet the man behind all the work and real preparations on the bike. This is Dan. Lets face it, without him I would be able to get this bike ready in time or I would be paying through the nose for the work.
He has also fabricated a few “ralley ready” modifications, like the mount for the switches and 12V.
This is the full list of things that have either been done to the bike or been added to the bike.
New Handlebars.
Steering Damper.
GPS wiring and Ram mounts.
Spot tracker and Ram mounts.
New headlight (Trail Tech).
New exhaust
Homemade windscreen.
Heated hand grips.
12V charger (for my air mattress).
Re-greased head stock bearings.
Serviced the suspension and raised the front. The guy I bought the bike from was vertically challenged and had lowered front end a bit.
Engine service (valve clearance check).
New front brake line.
New seat.
Pivot Pegz.
New mirrors + changed the connection point (off the from brake master cylinder).
Extension to the bash plate (homemade).I havent got any photos at the moment, as all of this work was only finished on Saturday, then I took it for a ride yesterday and now it’s all muddy. So I will wash it soon and get some more photos.

June 17, 2012 at 11:33 pm #224443Excellent stuff Amy…looks like the bike prep is coming along great and we should be ready for some shake-down runs in the near future…seems the (cancelled) OBT weekend gave you a chance to test the camping gear in crap conditions, so you should be good to go. I’m not even going and I’m getting excited!!
Thanks everyone for your support and help for a couple of girls who epitomise the Aussie ethic of “giving it a go”.
June 17, 2012 at 11:40 pm #224444OK so I think the chance of me washing the bike in the next few days is slim to remote, so I went and got some photos…dirt and all.
These show the new flight deck without the GPS and spot.
Then with the GPS and spot……not much room left, and I still have to put a 2-way radio on it.
The relocated mirror mount. Don’t want to break the oil reservoir in a fall. Maybe not a likely scenario, but I have seen it happen.
This is the bash plate extension we i.e. Dan made to protect the water hose a little better.
The new (well actually, second hand) FMF exhaust.
The screen mods. For anybody who saw this bike at Sunny Corner the head lights and screen were already on it, but we have shortened and shaped it a bit more.
Finally, a side view……….I’m also still playing with the graphics………….so any suggestions will be considered (except for pink…I don’t do pink!! ). The current stripes were only a result of playing around with some electrical tape (rough and ready I know  ) and after a few Bourbons :silly: .
So before I go get some proper graphic stickers to make this look a bit better, what do you think?
If somebody can come up with a better idea or style I will take it into consideration, no promises though………
