Good on ya Champo, Look forward to seeing the rest of the pics, give photobucket a go, resizes automatically and makes life a little easier, I have a few photos but I think the 99.00 ride camera has finally succumbed to the beatings it has taken and most photos are really dark. I’ll put them up tonight anyway, I got home washed bike did my chores and didn’t wake up till 8.00am this morning.

    Cheers
    Chris.

Champo, If one of the chairs is a blue Oz Trekker,it’s mine. I appear to be missing one.

Mick – One of the chairs was indeed a blue Oz Trekker one. Champo has it. I have the shovel if anyone has lost that. I can’t promise it won’t be used at home though :p

I had an awesome weekend and was great to meet up with all the guys on the site and put a name to face. I will do a more detailed write up a little later. B)

Let’s try and keep this thread at least slightly on topic. If you want to talk poo post in the Christmas party chit chat thread :)

I had a great ride, all 15 minutes of it!
The radiator was holed by a pointy log and the damage was probably repairable but I decided not to risk the 2 year warranty by doing a temp fix and called it a day.
Besides I had plenty to do at home anyway, sorry about that but next ride I will see it through (hopefully).

After a lot of talking on the forum about how the weather was going to turn out I was unsurprised when it started raining on Friday. Oh well, I’ll just have to harden the phark up I say to myself.

Arriving at Champo’s at 8:00am to drop the ute he kindly lent me and my bike off at his place, I park it out the back ready to reverse into his garage. Not more than 30 seconds later Champo tries to start the ute to find it wasn’t having any of it. Bugger!

After some deliberation and me taking the day off work (any excuse), we get to work in fixing the ute. When I say we, I of course mean Champo ;) The fuel pump was the culprit and after getting replaced the ute was fine and ready to go.

We got to base camp delta bravo niner just before sundown to avoid any contact with rebel patrolling forces and see a few guys there already and TB/Chris’s set up with music, beer, tarps the lot.

Initially I was going to sleep in my car as I couldn’t be arsed to put up the tent. About 15 minutes had passed and sense had prevailed, I got the tent out and began the large erection I had ahead of me.

After lots of piss taking by just about everyone else sat on their bums, drinking piss and having a great time Champo came to help get the tent into something might just about stay up. 2 sets (out of 4) of the tent poles were broken, making my tent look like a sorry excuse for a shelter.

The first night had ended relatively early and I got up at 5:00am to find I was the second person up. Shane_VOR had beaten me to it so I stumbles over to the campfire to join him. It was about 10 minutes later when I pissed myself laughing (internally only, I was still too tired to laugh out loud) realising that Shane was completely kitted in his boots and everything all ready to ride!

3.5 hours later and even more ribbing from the boys saw Shane actually swing his leg over the bike as we assembled for the group photo before the start of the ride. All photo’s taken we made our departure and headed off down the firetrail.

Things quickly went wrong and (due to the stupidity of another group) we all got mixed up with another group of riders. By the time people had realised it was too late, people were lost. Me and Gili set off to go find the other group and try and retrieve our riders. A good 40 minutes later I think we were all re-united and headed of for our own ride.

Shortly after hitting some ST on a slippery little downhill I watch Shane and the VOR bounce off the ground just as Champo was priming his camera at the bottom for a couple of opportune snaps.

The rest of the morning ride flowed very well with no major issues. I initially though Eagle kept falling off his bike but I think he was concerned about the erosion all the bikes were causing and kept putting his face on the ground to inspect the damage. What a Champ!

A little before we headed back for lunch Chris had a bit of a moment that I didn’t actually see. I did however see his bike sprawled across a rocky downhill section and a chunk missing out the tree! He was okay, shook himself off and got going again, no damage done to bike or rider.

We started to make our way to base camp as some people were getting tired, some had mechanicals to sort out and everyone was hungry! Everyone filtered back to the camp and got stuck into lunch kindly provided by Mac and his crew (thanks very much Mac). Once the food and refreshments had been dispensed everyone set about getting ready for the arvo ride.

We started off by heading out and jumping into some ST that we had done on a previous ride. This wouldn’t help anyone as the puddles of water made it like riding up a river at points. After a short little detour we made our way back towards Muirs lookout to pick up the trails that TB had planned.

The loop was very good and had a couple of greasy, slimey hills to get up. At one point I even had to park the pumpkin up and go and help TB who’s BRP was on the brink of sliding down into a ditch. I told him I’d remember it for future piss taking sessions!

As a final ‘tricky’ section Tb has taken us all to ‘Boulder’ hill. Now Boulder hill is named after Boulder (from this site) who had three stacks trying to attempt it on out last ride in the dry. This time it was wet and slippery and much harder to ride.

Sure enough carnage ensued. 2/3rds of the guys who attempted the hill didn’t get up first go. Some had several goes and had smashed Boulders record. Rider X amazingly ride about 5 different bikes up the hill for other people in a true display of ‘this is how you do it boys’. As impressive as X’s skills are, they don’t come close to Moose’s 180 bike flip over a log and landing flat on his face. Moose’s display was so impressive in fact that he took out the crash of the weekend winning a set of MSR riding gear kindly donated by Battye’s Bikes.

I really enjoyed the tracks on the way back and started to give the bike some more beans. By this time we were on the windy firetrail going past the wishing well. I caught up to TB who cruising along and somewhere along the line me and TB got to racing all the way back to the pines. I don’t really know how far we rode at race pace but we were covering ground very quickly.

It’s the fastest I’ve ridden the pumpkin in anger and had both wheels sliding round the corners holding it flat out in 5th gear, only notching up 6th on the straight sections! I even tried to pass TB on one corner where he exercised some racing skills and shut the door on me. We stayed together all the way back to the camp passing Tiny on the way. I saw TB take him and Tiny start to move towards the apex of the right hand corner. Not wanting TB to beat me at last I decides to sneak up the inside and take Tiny too, not really giving much thought about it.

It was so funny when we Tiny got back to the camp shouting out ‘where’s moto I’m gonna fu$%*ng headbut him’. Funny that is for everyone except me!! He walks up to the fire where everyone is gathered and lifts up his shirt as everyone burst out laughing. It looked like he had been shot with a sawn off shotgun, there was red marks all over his stomach, chest and arms from when I had passed him on the corner earlier

Saturday night was a good laugh despite with everyone sharing stories of past and present.

On Sunday we got ready to leave for our ride at about 9:15am Ollie lead the ride out. I hadn’t been on any of the trails that Ollie took us on but would like to ride them again as they were nice tracks. Either people were taking more easy on this ride or they had honed their skills from the day before as I don’t recall seeing any crashes.

The ride was to be split into two loops and I only rode the first loop. Somebody will be able to fill you in on the ups and downs of there.

    Highlights of the weekend:

Meeting all the guys from the forum that I hadn’t met before.
Falling off in a big puddle when nobody was around, hauling myself out and pretending I had just stopped to clean my goggles!
Racing back to camp with TB.
Playing silly buggers and riding past Chopper doing various stupid things
Trying to keep up with Raceytracey on the ST
    Looking at my tent
Wearing my jacket (it is very nice)
    TB needing my help ;)
Ollie snoring louder than 2 smoke at 20,000RPM
Plenty of others I will add at will (probably in different colour)!
