Can anybody tell me how to remove 1 of the phillips head screw in my starter moter,I went to clean it out & put a new kit in but 1 of the screws seem locked in there,I may have to take to my local mower shop & see if they can remove it,plus once removed can I replace the said screw with a nomal old screw or are special screws. Thanks

Give it a spray with WD40 or similar and let it sit for a while.Try give it a few taps with a hammer as well. If you end up buggering the head you will need todrill it and get an easy out.

The screw itself should be nothing special, you can replace it with a standard screw of the same size and thread type.

    Good luck with it.

    Hey Bert,
What I would do is, get a philips head screw driver with the metal shaft that runs right through it, making sure it is the absolute correct size for the screw. Then I would, whilst trying to turn the screw, tap the screw driver on the end with a hammer at the same time. This technique not only helps loosen the screw, it may also stop you from completely buggering the screw head as the screw driver stays firmly in the slots of the screw.

Gyday Bert, without actualy seeing the said bolt, I would place it vertically in a vice, give it a squirt of Wd40 and let it sit for a while, then use an impact driver with the right sized phillips head. This should get it without any drama and you may even be able to reuse the bolt until you get a new one. A small amount of heat may also help, but be carefull as starter motors may have some plastic in them nowadays ;)
