Orange revs up for second Yamaha MXCC

Thousands of spectators and hundreds of dirt bike racers will pack the Orange Showgrounds next weekend for the penultimate round of the popular Yamaha MX Cross Cup Series.

Organisers Dirt Bike Promotions, who are long-time Orange locals, said the opening round of the series held at the venue in January had been a huge success.

“We’re really looking forward to the event… all our previous Orange races have brought a lot to the local economy and they’re a really great family day out,” Sargent said.

“Motocross as a sport is fantastic for families… my two sons will both be racing.

“I always look forward to Orange especially because it’s where I grew up… when we travel from one end of Australia to the other throughout the year it’s nice to be able to come back home to the town we love.”

Sargent said time was running out to enter for the event – entries will be capped at 24 for each class and only a few spots remain.

“This will really be an unmissable event for riders and spectators alike,” Sargent said.

“The specially designed, man-made track will include jumps and whoops formed from more than 12,000 tonnes of dirt inside the arena at Orange Showgrounds.

“We’re also expecting the fastest riders from the Central West as well as some of the best from the state and the country, so racing will be spectacular for the riders and those who come to watch.”

The Yamaha MX Cross Cup is a six-round series combining three different types of motocross, with two stadium, two grass-track and two ‘standard’ outdoor MX races.

The series visits five different New South Wales’ locations, with the remaining rounds to be held at Orange on August 22nd and 23rd and Maitland on October 24th.

The series boasts classes for any rider with a National Motorcycling Australia license from nippers to juniors and clubman, women’s and pro lites and opens.

All junior classes except Junior 250cc 13/14yrs will race on Saturday. Senior classes and Junior 250cc 13/14yrs will race Sunday.

The race formats will be as follows: non-competition class – three x five-minute finals, junior classes and senior support classes – three x 10-minute finals, pro classes – three x 15-minute finals.

Gates at the Orange Showgrounds (on Leeds Parade, Orange) will open at 9am Saturday and Sunday. Admission cost (Sat & Sun): $8.00/adult/day, $2.00/child/day (5yrs – 14yrs) and under 5yrs FREE.
