October 27, 2009 at 11:41 am #158322Cheers Rocket I thought it was a ripper of a ride as great ride to finish up with before a forced break. I do enjoyed the run in the slippery conditions with you on Sunday morning, you had me work for my money a couple of times
Look froward to doing again all next year
TB
PS am looking forward to Mals pics and story
October 27, 2009 at 11:11 pm #158331Nice work as usual the D’s and TB (nice vids mate!), Rocket and crew! Kylie, you need to show Dan how to write a report now! Wish I could have been there, would have been better than a bloody day-long seminar on “Wellness”!!!!
Just on the horse thing, I hear it is best NOT to shut the engines off because horses will spook if bikes are rolling (or sometimes just sitting still) with no noise. Not saying that was the case, but it is what I have been told by some “horsey” people.
Bring on Mal5.1’s report!
October 28, 2009 at 8:03 am #158351Cheers ECKS it was a ripper of a ride one of the better it had it all and everyone was always smiling, I am also waiting for Mal’s report and Crash’s report would also be good Crash

Sadly I’ve been very busy at work (very rare indeed) and I had Medogrocket over for a few beers last night. Looks like a quiter night at work tonight, so I should get it done. Bike is still on the trailer in the shed where I left it Sunday arvo. I’ll get to that on Friday.
Thanks for the great ride TB (and Dan).

October 28, 2009 at 11:32 am #158422Another top weekend for the OB’s!
Stayed home Friday night to do the Little Athletics thing with the 3 little money eaters. A good evening! Up at 4 and hit the road headed for Mal5.1s out near Wallerwang. Went down the wrong road, made a call, changed direction and found Mals. What a beautiful setup he and Donna have! Hooked up his trailer and off we went. Just before our meeting place, TB, DD and KD passed us with Scotty and Novice following close behind. We ate and headed for Orange. Master Rocket A Gigglehat joined us just before the parking paddock.
After we unloaded, it was discovered that either Rat, Moto, Ollie or Squirrel had sabotaged the rear wheel of one of our bikes…..so we replaced the damaged bearings and headed out. The Day consisted of Pine forest single & twin tracks, a beautiful lunch, a spectacular goat track to Hillend and a river crossing. It was extremely dusty and very hard to see. The tracks were great. I got to have a go of Rockets 530. It was great in the singles. It was like jumping on a little 250 (weight wise that is), it’s so light compared to the fiddy. You could really throw it around, it had good power and the brakes were great! Obviously with less cc’s it required more gear changes and doesn’t have the torque of the fiddy, but does it rev! thanks Rocket, nice machine.
Scotty and his drz were performing well, keeping the pressure on everyone. Novice had his hands full…but was having fun. A few tips were offered and implemented, just needs some more time on the bike and he’ll be enjoying it even more! Then there’s Kylie. How good is she! She was sending that 250 missile along all day long, smiling at every stop and having an absolute ball. Mal tried sinking his Sherco at one point when he found the biggest water filled 4×4 rut track we would see all weekend! He zigged when he should of zagged whilst plowing through Scottys’ dust cloud. I forgot he could hear me through the Bluetooth as I roared with laughter as I could see and hear him cursing! As for Ricky Bobby and Cal Jr…..who knows….they were blazing a path for the rest of us to follow, and kicking up more dust than a Sahara sand storm! They seemed to be having a cracker of a time out front dueling with each other etc.
We arrived at the Pub for the night stay. Unpacked, showered away the grit, dust and sweat and then settled in for the evening. We had a few ales, a few rumskis and a great dinner. We moved into the games room and had a few more. Mal kept telling me how ‘these rums taste like shit’ – But he kept on drinking them and kept on shouting them right back at me. After I lost just about every game we played for us, listened to the squillion dollars worth of country songs the local bar-room rose selected and everyone else seemed to disappear – Mal and I found an ‘old world’ machine in the corner. Galactia, Pac-man, Space Invaders etc. But, after a while, the bar dried up, the lights were getting turned off and the power was about to be turned off on the machine. I guess it was bed time!
The next day, after joining us last night, the Sutto’s boys were now in the group. The rain started not long into our ride. This was great in one way – no dust – but, it was now very cold. Mal from Sutto’s didn’t take long to start pulling off some of the best wheelies on his 625. At one point I was cheering in amazement and laughing my head off as Mal had now been on is back wheel for over a kilometre – when Mal5.1 asked me, through the Bluetooth, “What the hell are you on about?” – I said “look behind you!” – He did, and all he could see was the front wheel of the 625 still pointing to the sky……amazing!!!
I swapped bikes with Cal Jr (DanD). The little 450, like the 530, was a pretty light bike. I notice the light steering and flighty feel when you hit stuff on the track. You’ve certainly got to give them some curry to get the best out of them….but, when you do…look out, it got up and bogied! Thanks Dan, another nice machine.
We hit the pie shop for breaky and then went out to Mt Canobolas. By now, it had been raining most of the morning. The pine forest tracks were treacherous. Sooooooooo slippery. I had a couple of careless little drops. Even Ricky Bobby dropped it. Rocket was having a ball fish tailing out of corners with Mal and Scotty doing the same, it was great fun. Not to be outdone, I had the mother of all ‘tank slappers’ approaching a crest on some twin track, I watched ahead as TB started to flick sideways on top of the crest. Being in 3rd gear and getting along fairly well, I backed off……..uhh ooo, compression lock-up…..back goes left…comes back and I think I might be alright here (famous last words)…but backend now goes right and keeps going. It’s now 90 degrees to the direction I am traveling. I have now traveled about 15 metres……graceful dismount time! Before I could get my XR650 manual out and refer to the ‘How to dismount gracefully” section…..it spat me off and flicked me down the track…….take that rookie!……right in front of Mal, Scotty and Rocket. It was a cracker.
It was a beaut afternoon.
Mustn’t forget about the hillclimb king……..Mal5.1.
He paddled his way up a ripper of a slippery, root laden, snotty, rutted hill that nobody else could…..well done mate! Thanks for the great track and route choice TB.
Thanks to everyone else too. Good people and great company.Crash

AnonymousTop report Crash
I did enjoy my blat on your Fiddy – if only I could start the bloody things I would change colours in a flash.
I only wish I could write a report like yours, instead you get war and peace  but thats just me I suppose.
Ask TB about the off track brown onion stories that I subject him to. It gets to the point where I cant remember why I started telling the story.
October 30, 2009 at 2:58 am #157918Great reports guys!! Really sorry I missed this one  But after reading your reports its almost like i was there anyway.
October 30, 2009 at 4:25 am #158660Well here’s my version of events. Sorry it’s a bit long winded, but once I start typing at 4am it’s hard to stop.
Huge thanks to TB for organising and him and Dan for leading.
Day 1
The weekend started with a phone call at 7am from Crash “I think I took a wrong turn somewhere”. He had but it was ok, I talked through it and he turned up to the house within minutes. We hooked the trailer up and off we go. Chatting away on the road and we get to the first intersection and Crash seemed like he was going to turn right and said do we go left here, I say no we go right and pointed to the left. We had to go left and he was turning that anyway. Not the best way to start a weekend away. Out on the highway and we’re coming to the meeting point servo and I’m just about to tell Crash we’re here and he says here comes TB. TB flies past, jumps on the brakes and pulls into the servo. Crash says typical TB, has to be first all the time.
With breaky done and a dodgy coffee poured into the garden at the servo we were off to Orange. Getting there a bit early TB decides to grab a couple of spokes for the 650. We all wait around for ages thinking he’s selling Old Bulls to the bike shop. But he comes out with a handful of old spokes and greasy hands.
We meet up with Whiterocket who has his signature giggle hat on and as we pass he has his head out the window with the biggest ‘I’m going riding’ grin on his face. The guy is always smiling and happy. Good on ya Rocket. Once at TBs mums place (thanks TBs mum for the use of your paddock) after several attempts at installing the wrong shaped spokes it is noticed that TBs rear wheel bearings are shot. With the bearings out Dan and Kylie shoot off into town for new ones and we all hang shit on TB for not keeping the maintenance up to the 650. Then we quietly go and check our bikes for sloppy bearings.
With bearings fixed we’re off into the bush not far from the cars. Some excellent singles though the pines and the natural bush. A little dusty but if you hang back a bit the slight breeze cleared the track. A couple of little rocky up hill sections certainly warmed the body up. Novice was struggling a bit with the tighter tracks and was giving some tips which he put to use and found a bit of rhythm and enjoyed the riding a lot more. After a few loops of singles and fire trails we headed into town for lunch at the Pub. Crash and I had a hamburger with the lot and it would have to be one of the best I’ve had.
Crash had wired me up to the Bluetooth headset so we could talk while riding. What a fun bit of gear. My helmet had too much wind noise at higher speeds to hear what Crash was flapping his gums about so I’d just say yeh or laugh when I thought it was time for me to say something. But in the single tracks and slower fire trails we had a great laugh talking shit and hanging shit on each other. Crash was like a rally navigator telling when a turn was coming up and what was on the tracks. Then when I was in front he asking me to tell him what was on the tracks and I said your right behind me have a look yourself. Thanks for wiring me up Crash it was great fun chatting on the tracks. I’ll be getting a set of them in the near future.
We then headed off for some more sweet tracks. I think this is where I nearly had to put on the SCUBA gear to retrieve the Sherco. Crash was chatting away in my ear and I was following Scotty when he hit a heap of fine dust and causing a whiteout behind him and in front of me. Just then Crash says stay right of puddle. I jump on the brakes and stopped just in the water of the puddle. I think it won’t be that deep and decide I’m too far in and couldn’t be bothered to get off and to back the bike up. So in I go and it gets deep, real deep. The Sherco’s wheels disappear under water and I decide to stop and pull the bike out. All this time Crash is laughing his arse off in my ear. Thanks mate you’re a great help.
Dan
Kylie
Rocket
We get back to the cars to swap packs for the run to Hill End and someone has a flat. I think it was Rocket. That fixed and at the driveway it’s noticed that Novice has a flat. That one fixed as well and someone else got a flat before we left I think.
TB thoughts on KTMs
Then we’re on the way to Hill End. Once on the dirt it gets very scenic. The tracks are wide the riding fast, a nice way to end the day. The crossing at Long Point was interesting, you just ride in not been able to see the terain in the water and alls good. Then towards the end you can see the rocks your riding on and I got a bit nervous and wobbly. Made it through ok. Kylie rode it like a legend as she thought it was a cocrete causeway when she seen it.

Crash freshening up
At the Pub we get the rooms sorted, had a shower and off to the bar for refreshments. Had a great T bone with some dodgy looking salady stuff and more refreshments and then Crash wants a quick game of pool. The pool table antics have been described pretty well. The only thing I’ll add is that Crash sent more balls off the table than he got in the pockets. As Crash said the locals were playing both kinds of music on the jukebox. I’ve heard enough LeAnne Rimes to see me to the grave. Crash and Scotty got some rock music in here and there. By the end of the night Crash and I were playing the ‘old’ style games with our left over coins. We were telling the young barman (who was turning everything off around us) how we remember the days when you could go to the fish and chip shop, get a $1 worth of chips and put a $1 in the spacy machine and fill in a Sunday arvo. He didn’t care and said it was bed time.
Crash doing his best to concentrate
Dan and Mal (suttos)
Kylie to pool shark
Crash nailed by TBs balls
TB all tired and emotional
If you look close you see the lean on the table. The floor in my room had a ‘V’ shape to it.
Oh and the rums were shit but they got a little better as the night went on. :woohoo: :woohoo:
