So with another Friday off (man I do like this 9 day fortnight business) it was time for a little bit more exploration of the surrounding areas, albeit with a mix of known and new.

So it was to be as I headed north of town by the usual small ‘lane way’ that emerges onto the highway, only today it was emerging into the middle of some roadworks which caused a few confused looks from the workers who had the traffic all stopped. Turning right onto the highway when signalled I started off down the road but came to a stop as one of the workers ran onto the road to tell me that there was traffic coming at me (which I had already seen anyway but thanked him) as there was confusion amongst the stop/go dudes and dudettes (very cute dudette as well).

Once the all clear was given and traffic passed, I was then allowed on the way and started out on the highway with the view to explore a few of the sidetracks where I met one of the locals.

The track was just a little way off the highway so I was trying to be careful not to scare the wallaby or the joey (not in the pics) to much in the hope that it did not head the opposite way to the highway and into the traffic. Mind you, the wallaby seemed quite calm with me being there and relatively close, either that or it did not feel threatened (god I need to work on my threatening posture) but all was good and after a few more pics of the surrounds we parted ways.

This was close by as well

So was this. Not sure what it is but just hope that it is not some important part of a bloody train

    DSCN0589-M.jpg

After a little while longer the track rejoined the highway and so it was off to another little track I had done once previously and that had worked me bloody hard, although today I hoped for something different as I would be going the opposite direction this time.

Now a little video of the track and yes I know that I am pathetically slow and cautious, well that is what I will call it but in all honesty it is nothing more than totally lacking in talent of ability to go faster :) , well that and stock standard no knobby tyres (yes yes, just another excuse)

Now, the above track emerges onto one of the soon to be local roads (these are basically with 1 km of where I am building so all good) and all to soon there is this little one that ends a few hundred metres from my place

From here it was back more of the rail line roads before heading off north of town for a little look at what was around out that way, although I was targeting one road in particular just to see where it led. Road found, after some gates and a few kays it was a case of this way

    or That.

    DSCN0598-M.jpg

Chose the first option which led me to one of the places I had been hoping to find.

    DSCN0609-M.jpg

Although on the way there was a slight hiccup when I ran over a little piece of wire that was sitting hidden in some grass and subsequently decided to wrap itself into my back wheel, but luckily not into the chain or sprocket.

Wasn’t a bad little spot actually.

And so, wire cleared, gates opened (and closed again) it was off into the forest which, well, was a little disappointing in some way although it was still fun. It would seem that I found only a very small portion of the forest itself, albeit one that was totally fenced in and with only one track through it, a track that was well littered by small branches, leaves and grass.

Basically it looked like some parts of this track had not seen traffic for some time with no obvious tyre tracks, but other parts were more open and came complete with wildlife like this little guy that crossed the track and tried to play hide and seek, the kangaroos were to bloody fast to get pics.

    DSCN0616-M.jpg

This was the best part of the track and lasted for all of 300 metres

To be fair, while I say that this part of the forest was disappointing I do not mean in any way that the track was underwhelming or disappointed as it was immense fun, the disappointing part was that it simply was not large enough as there was only the one track and the place was just to small. That all said eventually I ended up back where I started and so headed out, but with the time drawing on it was simply a case of back to town with no more exploring, although I did spot one very real future exploration area so will be back in the next few weeks for sure.

All up, a bit to much tar but that was by choice as it was simply an exploration and being alone I don’t want to take to many risks off in the unknown where there is no mobile reception.

    Until next time ………………..

    Nice looking ride

That round thing looks like the disc off a grinder they use to grind down the track after they have welded it.
