Not the way I planned the day to go at all but when I got home from work I thought I’d get on our ride on before the coming rain. A lot of my land is steep but I’ve never had a drama before. I was going up a particularly steep hill when the drive belt snapped , on a zero turn mower that’s like hitting neutral in reverse with no steering or brakes.
I sped up in a blink and the rear of the tractor dug in the ground. This flipped the 320kg machine backwards , the steering levers ment I couldn’t jump off and the first thing to hit the deck was my head followed by the whole mower rolling over me and compressing me into the seat. It rolled twice before I was thrown out. I think was briefly knocked out and my back copped the full force. Luckily my wife was home and got me to hospital very quickly.
After a heap of X-rays it’s been found I have crushed a lumber vertebrae and they are getting me to a CT scanner in Grafton to make sure my backs not fractured. So I’m really sorry to say Mike I won’t make Noosa in 3 weeks time. I thought I should let you guys know as soon as I could in case anyone wants my spot on this awesome ride.
Laying here in Base on morphine and oxy cotton(sp) I feel totally gutted about Noosa but quite glad to be alive .
Nick

That a nasty accident mate. You’re lucky to survive a roll over like that.
Enjoy the morphine and take the time to heal properly.
Good luck with it and keep us posted.

MickSeptember 10, 2013 at 9:09 pm #249548Shit Nick, sorry to hear that.
Get well soon mate, you’ll be back roostin’ in no time
September 10, 2013 at 9:16 pm #249580Nick, lucky to survive that one mate. Now use the oppurtunity to make sure your wife knows its much safer to riding than mow the lawn. Try getting some wallabies in to do the job , my place is infested with them and they keep the grass down so well my mower sits unused in the shed. Let me know if there is any thing you need done from a medical point of view.
September 10, 2013 at 9:29 pm #249581Hmmmm Extreme lawn mowing.
