My 2T Mariner 30 shat itself last night.
Started second go,idled like a beauty, ran sweet as ….untill it started to get warm.
All of a sudden it just cut out. I got it started again by using the choke and it was running rough as after turning the choke off and blowing a ton of white smoke and fuel was coming out of the exhaust. I am talking a ton of smoke!! More smoke than a hippies lounge room!!
Normally it starts easily but all off a sudden she isn’t happy.
It won’t start with out the choke either now.
Anyone got a clue where to start looking??

I pulled the sparkplugs out and they seem fine to me and it was running fresh fuel. so I dunno?

That doesn’t sound goo mate. It sounds very much like the air/fuel is outta whack somehow.

Dunno, It runs sweet when it is cold but soon as it gets hot it starts spluttering and blowing smoke.
I put a new throttle control in it last week and it was running fine before.
The timing advance is connected to the throttle linkages and I was dicking around a bit with the adjustments on that, would that cause it to play up when hot?If the timing advance was incorrectly adjusted?

power head is easy, crankshaft seal not so easy.Could also be a massive airleak on your intake somwhere. Do a compression test while you are at it.

Hmmmmmm,It is all starting to sound to hard.
Power head is the head?? Like in leaking head gasket??
I did notice the two plugs looked different, one kinda had a rusty colour about it and the other was nice and tan,I am thinking it might be getting some water in the top cylinder.

    Chris.

If it wasn’t for the electric motor and a incoming tide we would have been up the perverbial creek.
We still got two nice bream and two nice flathead for our trouble.
