hey all.. Does anyone know the type of paint used on motorcylce frames? I’m after the paint type for the XR400 line..

    common types are:

    2 pack
    Enamel
    Acrylic
    Vinyl

    Cheers….

thanks corey but I’m after what type you guys think is currently on it not what I should get ;)

I would also like the color code if anyone knows where to look… It seems 96-98 had a gray (almost machine gray) looking color on the frame then in 99 they went to the silver color..

Honda Silver paint code for my xr400 is R-134 on the sub-frame sticker and hammerite silver smooth is a near perfect match.

copy and pasted from : http://www.xrv.org.uk/forums/466007-post8.html

seems like there may be a sticker with the code on it? or is that just a UK thing?

    what year is your bike?

Hi xy – That code according to the honda color code chart is Fighting red.. The sticker on my sub frame is NH 196 which is Ross White.. 96-98 where white fendered Ross White.. 99 onwards seems to carry the code you mentioned to represent the Fighting red of the plastics.. The silver framed color XR400s I believe are ‘NH-262M Terra silver metallic’ That info came from some european website can’t recall name….
