Hi All,
I’m running penrite hpr diesel 15 in my lux and was wondering if anyone used it in there bikes? Penrite tech says it’s good for all 4t bikes with wet clutch. Thinking of running the boys ttr50 & crf80 on it. Any thought or opinions why not?
Thanks Brad.November 7, 2012 at 12:46 am #232099I have been sussing out the Penrite range of oils for a while now, I wouldn’t put the diesel 15 in my bike because if you shop around you can get the fully synthetic motorcycle specific (MC4ST) or Racing 10 for a good price. But in a lower performance kids bike I would say go for it.
If you are a member of DBW do a search for Penrite there is heaps of info and experience from blokes that have been running it in their bikes for ages.
November 7, 2012 at 12:48 am #232100haven’t run the Penrite diesel oil in a bike but I am running Penrite 20w-60 in the Buell at the moment. But then again the Harley owners manual says to use any good quality diesel oil if the Genuine Harley oil isn’t available.
November 7, 2012 at 1:01 am #232104Penrite Diesel has better properties than most other oils on the market. I wouldn’t use it on old bike as the deisel contains detergents that can ‘clean’ your internals and may make things worse or cause a leak where the gunge was previously helping seal it.
The Gas 10 oil is the one I use as it’s the best one of the ones commonly available in my Supercheap.
November 7, 2012 at 1:25 am #232105Tripper uses Gas 10 in his XR600 and riderX has run it in his WR’s for years and he does a lot of miles.
November 7, 2012 at 2:05 am #232106i run the 20/60 (i think gas 15) in my 5L daily driver. an older ducati 583 moster and the 640.
i was planing on running it in my mild 351 and my soon to be 4.1/4L mongrel bitsa transit.
however the engine builder/ high performance guru that is building the 4.1 says that he has an oil analyser and that the same viscosity Valvoline is a better quality from a direct comparo. to Penrite.
he recommends and uses Valvoline, Mobile1, Lucus. full synthetics.
Castrol is over priced and over hyped. again he recommended Valvoline with the added bonus of it being better priced.
he did say that he does not hate Penrite but he has had customers 2 engines that failed, that he could directly attribute to the use of Penrite oil.
he didn’t have time to go into what engines they were or if the oil used was the wrong grade for the application.
next time you are in Repco, check the back of the label as the last batch my old man got from there was made by Penrite, i dunno if it’s any cheaper than Penrite branded but worth a look.
i’m not saying don’t use Penrite, just adding some info that i just found out myself.
has anyone have any experience / knowledge of what changing brands can do to an engine?
if an engine has been used with the one brand/ grade of oil for a long period of time.

Previous testing in a lab environment by an independent body rated some of the Penrite oils as some of the best commercially available. Rated against more than just shear levels, viscosity specific gravity that alot of basic comparo’s of the labels tell you. It’s on DBW somewhere……
Oil is always a minefield, everyone has an opinion on which is better, most of the top ones and the cheap ass ones will be fine in reality though, you wouldn’t see the difference through normal engine life anyway.
November 7, 2012 at 2:53 am #232109Thanks guys, on further thought I run the HPR gas10 in th wifes gas injected Kluger so i’ll run with it. 10w 50 should be a better option. If all’s good might change my yzf450 over as well, will this oil be up to these revs, stresses?
Cheers BradNovember 7, 2012 at 2:58 am #232111It works fine in my 570 Berg.
November 7, 2012 at 5:17 am #232112Is the diesel oil cheaper or are people using it just to save on buying different oil for their various vehicles in their shed?
What is the reason??? Seems strange to me to use a diesel oil. Diesels run at very slow revs, extreme temperatures and diesel oil contains detergent.
However, having said that, I have run straight 30 grade diesel oil in all my older farm bikes for years and it has never been an issue, but I always use a quality petrol oil in my dirt bikes.November 7, 2012 at 6:24 am #232101Oils ain’t oils
Petrol for petrol , diesel for diesel
I,m trying pen rite racing 10 20 litters for $220
Whatever you use just use it like it was free and change it very frequently
As for the grunge , get rid of the crap
That’s why you change it clean system cleaner oil , less wearBut I don,t know shite

November 8, 2012 at 2:23 am #232119I love reading these threads. As if most of you guys (some notable exceptions) will own the car/bike long enough to ever see an issue with their engines!
450cc + should run whatever oil you like, sell the bike/car in 3 years and let it be someone elses problem!November 26, 2012 at 11:20 am #232102were are you geting your oil [racing 10] from bob? from a supercheap shop or a proper penrite dealeraship
