Just arrived back in London after two weeks tripping around the Greek Islands. Awesome place to visit – so much history. Found a pub on Santorini that was showing the NRL grand final live. Lots of beers before lunch. Happy days :silly:
The tourist season is almost over, with the end of Oct being the official finish. Most resorts and hotels and souvenier places close for 5 months then, and the staff have to look for other seasonal work until next summer. Tourism is their main industry. One bloke we spoke to hadn’t had a day off for 7 months, as he needed all the money he could get. They get paid f$&@ all as well. Really nice people, happy, friendly. Prices were generally not too bad, with the exception of petrol. Ok, so they don’t have as far to travel as we do, but fuel is AUD$2.85 per litre for 95 unleaded, up to AUD$3.19 per litre for 100 super unleaded. Prices between the islands and the mainland were about the same. They are all pretty much in agreement that the economy is stuffed and will take years to recover. I will never complain about the price of petrol in Australia again. I was only to happy to part with my hard earned to help support their stuggling economy, whether it was food, beer or entrance fees and excursions.
We sure do live in the lucky country.
Cheers budge
