Any one got any or know where I can score some elcheapo XR600 plastics? to siut ’87. I’d like to change the colour of my pig in winter when I won’t be riding her much. I’d like a set of plastics to paint while keeping the stock ones stock. I do a fair bit of airbrushing and would like to make my pig stand right out, plus I’d like to put it in our local show ‘n shine next year and try to knock a harley or two off their porch and try to get “best paint on a bike”. That would piss a hell of a lot of the ‘bikers” right off and would be great for a laugh if it did win, 2k pig wins over a 30k hog. I having been doing a hell of a lot of reading about sealing the inside of plastic tanks and think I should be able to do it with some good results.

Sorry syco, I missed this post. We have been experimenting with painting plastics. Guards and side covers come up ok but will scratch easily. AS for the tank, being semi permiable the fuel fumes leach out very quickly and start to bubble the paint in no time. I would be interested in seeing the results of your tank sealing efforts though.
AS far as cheap after market plastics go. Ebay in the States is probably your best bet.

Thanks Mike I will have a look at US ebay. I have been doing alot of reading and one product keeps coming up. It is suppose to be an internal sealer for plastic tanks and if done correctly should seal them. I have the product writen down some were, if any one wants to know the name I will dig it out for you.
As for the fairing plastics if you treat them like plastic bumpers on cars they shouldn’t scratch easily. You have to prep them properly then use a good quality plastic primer then paint and clear.

Arse up on a nice gravelly surface will sort out the paint on the front guard. All XR’s sport scratches there.

Yep hearing you there. That’s one thing car’s plastics don’t tend to touch too much. I really only want to do it for a car/bike show next year then once the show is over she’ll get her war scars back and probably the stock plastics and repaint the others for the next show.
