Should I remove the plastic splash guard from the side of the air box,to open it up a bit?Or does it serve a reasonable enough purpose to keep it there? That should lean it a little which may help your cause, just one thing on that is that I used to struggle with blocking air filters and the jetting going fluffy during a ride, also I got some small amounts of dust in the intake. Since making the side cover mod see http://www.obtrailriders.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&Itemid=56&func=view&catid=4&id=526
and blocking the air supply from under the seat (which is air from the back wheel area dusty as) and draw air from beside the bike my filters never ever get dirty. Louee for me was interesting as after a dusty days riding, Chris’s filter was so dirty and almost blocked yet mine didnt need cleaning, even after the whole 3 days.
Do it I say

November 10, 2008 at 10:30 pm #111783What about,I dick around with the air screw and lean it off there? Grasping at straws here.
January 7, 2009 at 2:26 am #111784THe ping came back!! When I put the bigger pilot in the carby I dropped one down on the main. Every thing seemed fine untill I put taller gearing on it and then the ping was back. I have since dropped back one tooth on the front sprocket and put a 210 main jet and no more ping. Go figure??
January 7, 2009 at 2:50 am #117200Ya loading an already close thing up with the gearing change
January 7, 2009 at 3:03 am #117212Yes Dave is on the money!

AnonymousThe bigger gearing is making the bike work harder to get the speed up it’s obviously enough to get the ping back.
Are you using 98 fuel? If not, using a higher grade fuel should stop the ping. The higher the RON of the fuel the more resistance it has to detonation
January 10, 2009 at 10:16 am #117622Yeah I am using premium. I fixed the ping by putting a loud pipe on it. I can no longer hear a ping.LOL

AnonymousMight also be reducing radiant heat within the system and help stop the detonation. Getting rid of the gasses quicker helps with lowering temps

AnonymousDave, pulse tuning only works (intentionally) if it was designed that way in the first place, and is also effected by the profile of the cam/valve opening times.
It’s not an acoustic shock wave either, it’s a pressure wave (albeit you can hear it though)

Moto all machines will have a wave(shock, sound , pressure doesnt matter which) that will effect burn rates and even if the system was not designed around this you will still get changes no matter what when the rate of movement is altered, this may be real close as it is and thats why the thing is doing what is
