This from the Newcastle Herald the other day.

Police believe they are closing in on a group of busy trailbike thieves, with dozens of machines recovered in a raid. Newcastle City specialist operations group swooped on a North Arm Cover property last Friday. They believe it is one of several hideouts where stolen machines are held before being offloaded.

They seized more then 20 trailbikes, three quadbikes, a $65,000 caravan, two trailers and an assortment of trailbike equipment, tools and generators.

Officers raided a Mayfield property on Monday night in a related operation. Although they are yet to lay charges , arrests appear imminent.

Several hundred trail bikes have been stolen accross the Hunter since the beginning of 2009. “It would be fair to say there has been well over 100 (trailbikes stolen) in the Newcastle area alone, let alone counting Lake Macquarie and the rest of the Hunter,” crime manager Detective Chief Inspector Brad Tayler said yesterday.

Police are working to identify owners of the seized trail bikes.

Lets hope all the gear is returned to the original owners.I did not realise how many bikes get pinched don’t people lock up ther gear? My bikes are dynabolted to the concrete floor with the kryptonite cable lock set up its very hard to cut it with bolt cutters.

Some one (id say it was kids) broke into my car the other night (opened the unlocked door) and stole the loose change out of my centre console. The keys where in the ignition and they didnt even take the car, thats why I think it was kids. They probably got about 3 or 4 bucks in 5, 10 and 20 cent coins and left my $200 sunnies.

I wonder if the cops would hunt them down for me

I find living in the bush and giving clear notice that their are guns and dogs on the property means I can leave my keys in all my vehicles!! ;)

good to see people will be getting their bikes back though.

    Hey Jeffro
I was just about to scan that article and send it to a bloke I know that had his 08KTM 530 pinched a couple of Sat nights ago from lambton. 2 weeks before that another bloke I know had 3 bikes taken from Budgiewoi 10wr450,a real nice wr250 two banger and a jr 80. Let’s hope they catch em and me mates get their bikes back. Thievin bastards should be shot.

You need to keep all that stuff out of sight so the crooks won’t be tempted when we park the car in Cabramatta we don’t leave anything of value to be seen no change no bags nothing this stops the junkies from smashing your window it does happen from time to time but you can avoid it by not leaving valuables in sight. When we go for a ride we lockup and chain the bike trailer to the car so they can’t pinch the trailer

Another thing to be mindfull of,is limit full noise testing of bikes in your shed. I have already pinpointed where there are other bikes in my area just by that alone. So could lowlife.

For sure my neighbours YZ450 can hear it for miles,at my last house in a dodgey area i used to start the mower up and run it to hide the noise but then i realized they sound similar idling anyway

Another sad point about bike theft is the fact that there are plenty of scum out there willing to purchase stolen goods. Most of these bikes get sold to people for well below what they are worth. Many people are happy to scoop up a bargin and know damn well what they are buying is ‘HOT’. To me these people are just as bad as the crooks themselves.

4skin did you know there is a law that says if you go more than 3 mtrs from your car or bike you must take the keys out of it?
Good thing you didn’t tell the cops, it would have been you who broke the law!

There was a bloke from the coast at Upper horton on the weekend. Had a 2011 and a 2010 model tm stolen from his shed during the week plus all of his riding gear. Rang the cops, they didn’t even bother coming out, just gave him a number to give to the insurance company. Said that the theives are stealing bikes until they have enough for a container full then shipping them overseas and selling them. I did wonder about how this was done, surely customs would be a bit sus over a container load of bikes and then when they are in the next country would they be compliant to sell.
