Menace i all ready know your reply.Ok guys tomorrow is my d day.Do i buy the WR450 or the EXC450.Im leaning towards the WR only because of price. If i buy the Wr by tomorrow i can get it for 11500 rideaway against 13200 for the Kato. Both bikes are far and above more than i would ever need.I know you only pay for something once but im having a lot of trouble seeing what the extra money for the Kato would do to benefit me.I think im going blue.

    Get a Beemer.

Closed loop injection, manufique suspension light weight.
    $12450 with 2 yr warranty

I recently had a look at the beemer and just wouldnt ever get over the fuel cap in the seat.It just doesnt seem right.:) :)

cut to the chase and go the orange, great ergo’s and no linkage to bang up on logs, good tractable engine, hey i bought a husky te450 and wish i could go back in time and go orange, as the sticker says if it aint orange its a lemon!!!

I tried an 07 wr450 last year and was not impressed. fuel consumption was high and with jetting it back to virtually standard jetting could not get much more than 80kms to a tank. I also bought an 07 wr250 before that and thought it was a great bike but got sick of shuffling gears and reving the freckle out of it at 100kmh. I am lazy these days and decided to stick with a 450. Hence the wr450, but did not like it and went back to orange. I ended up with an 08 450KTM which I like. Will idle along in 6th gear at 100kmh and will run out to 160k’s+ (so my son tells me). One thing I dont like with the new kato is the airbox (compared to 07 & earlier models) filters get dirtier with dust and mud. Not sure of the long term reliability compared to the older RFS motor. (My sons 04 450ktm has 12000km on it and goes really well and no problems as yet).
A couple of other mates have been pretty pissed when after 12 months after they have bought a new yammy they have had to loose big dollars to get rid of their bike as dealers were selling new superseded yammies at secondhand prices. The KTM’s seem to hold their value better for resale.
I know it is a hard decision to make, but I think you really need to have a good ride on each bike before you part with your hard earned dollars. Good luck.

Catch you at the snowy ride, Mickp.

Forget the go fast bits, no one here rides a modern 450 to its limit, price a set of wheel brgs for both and notice the $33 price difference, yes one has some quality gear for sure and if I raced I could see the value for sure, but the other will do the same job week in and week out as well, tough choice

Champo bought my (rear) wheel bearings at Newcastle KTM for the grand sum of $22. Maybe you’re buying the wrong bearings ;)

For the difference in price the sensible option is to buy the WR. Let’s face it they are a great bike and like most said will be able to do all you can and more.

Still, if it’s KTM where your heart is really at and your not really tight for cash then I don’t think you’d regeret it.

My ’08’ 450 has been great, no regrets whatsoever :)

    Good luck either way.

Yes Moto I know Champo bought your brgs I fitted them remember as I do a lot of your repairs / maintenance the night before rides

The bearings I was talking about are the ones in the newer KTM’s the fronts especially a thin style, I only know this because I live in Sutto’s lately and have been taking parts for OBT members all over the state recently so I see the parts and prices

Heres an example, real life not cut and pasted Moto

I went to Sutto’s the other day to purchase some hand guards for Lochie’s KTM 85 the hand guards are from the KTM hard parts catalogue

RRP $151 yes two plastic guards two bolts two cable ties

The acebries (sorry for the spelling) same thing

    RRP $71

Another brand sorry cant remember the name

    RRP $39

Mal did me a deal on the KTM guards but check that price difference

That is why I said if I raced maybe, they have quailty gear the Kato’s but that two K difference for trail riding to big a gap for me

Enjoy whatever you get Ade ;)
