Seeing as though Postie Bikes are all the rage at the moment, I thought I would get on the band wagon, especially after seeing the flogging they can take, after witnessing first hand the abuse they received on the recent Scrapheap adventure ride!! In order to procure one I put a call out, in our local paper, and it wasn’t long before a local farmer dropped by my office to tell me he had one that I could have for $50 as it wasn’t going and hadn’t been for 15 years.
I agreed to come and have a look and when I arrived he was busily pumping up the tyres on it. I had envisioned a CT110 ( like the Australia Post bikes) that he had, but it turns out it was a C90 and a pretty tidy one at that.
I took the punt that it could be a goer again and gave him $50 and we loaded it up on the trailer and he said he had some spares for it if I wanted them too, I agreed that would be great and he went under his house and retrieved three crates of stuff and a frame, which pretty well turns out to be another whole bike in bits!!
Whilst the missus was at the gym I snuck the bike home and into the shed only to be sprung about 20 minutes later when she got home and decided she’d like a beer. As it turns out all is good as she thinks it is “cute”.
Anyhow, once I worked out it had a 6 volt system I got a 6v battery from Mud and Tar for $24.00, I wired the battery up, removed the carby and gave it a clean up, refitted it and she fired up after 3 kicks!!
Once it was going, the kids were on it and busily cutting a track in around our house, they eventually managed to put 40 miles on it over the weekend. Yes Miles!!
Taylah had ball riding it around the house.
Dunno how long it will last with this clown riding it! I saw it come around the house in a 2 wheel drift more than once!
Once the kids worked out the electrics all worked they continued riding it into the evening with the lights blaring and the horn tooting. The neighbours must love us!
I figured it was a pre 1974 model as it has MPH on the speedo. A quick call to Rock’s Motorcycles in Port Macquarie with the VIN number confirmed that it is actually a 1968 model!!!!
Now it is running I have no idea what I am going to do with it though, It is too good to abuse on the scrapheap Ride I think!

Funny you should say that LC, my young bloke actually delivers brochures and suggested that it would be good for that.
May 8, 2012 at 3:27 pm #221289First bike I ever rode was one of them
It belonged to a mates older sister
She was pretty good looking back then
Wonder if she still does
Oops thinking aloud :pinch:

May 8, 2012 at 4:49 pm #221300Hey Mick does it have the dual range gearbox? If it does it will have a lever under the motor to give it a low range, might be worth a look.
May 8, 2012 at 4:53 pm #221301I remember getting doubled by my father to footy practice when I was very very young on something that looked the same as that machine, Mick.
Looks as though the kids are having a hootBy the way you could of had my postie, as it hasn’t fixed it self yet. :silly:
I just can’t be bothered with it at the moment, too busy with other stuff.
Cheers
MurphMay 8, 2012 at 4:53 pm #221302The helmet is normally a standard rule but they wanted some pics for their Facebook page. Otherwise, no lid no ride.
I am not sure that I even want to restore it. It is pretty cool as it is. I might get the seat recovered though.
No Fester, she doesn’t have the dual range box in it, as it was the street going version not the ag model.
May 8, 2012 at 5:58 pm #221304I have not seen one in that colour before. Nice.

May 8, 2012 at 7:46 pm #221306It’s not unlike my first “bike” only mine was red. It still had the wind break/fairing thingy like yours Mick. Not sure of the model only that it was referred to as a Honda 90 Step through.

May 8, 2012 at 8:24 pm #221291Great find Mick,
Your photos bring back some great memories for me.
I can remember charging around my parents house on the same bike.
Could not kill it, bloody thing went through years of abuse and keep going.
Great to see you and your family getting so much enjoyment out of the new purchase. Some times it is the simple things in life that we enjoy the most and remember for years.Cheers

Cheers Teza.May 8, 2012 at 9:57 pm #221314We lived in Gladstone QLD when we got ours, it was still registered at the time. We used to take around the local motocross track when they had open days. Had a few good stacks on it as I recall. I don’t remember any maintenance on it either, just fuel it up and go again.
Ours lasted 3 or 4 years before we killed it, towards the end the centrifical clutch died so you would start it, give it a bit of a rev, hold tight and stomp it into gear and take off with a bit of a wheelie
