Giving the bike a wash today and after last weeks Nav ride I thought it might be an idea to clean my pre filter on the Tiger.

Took the seat off to get to it but it seems to disappear under the tank.

Do I need to take the tank off to be able to remove it? Mr Squiggle, any ideas? Anyone?

Did you install the unifilter wigster?

No, it was done at the dealers. This is where I miss my KLR. Change oil and filter, clean air filter, 20 minutes max.

It seems like a long “sock” type of arrangement which I think replaced the snorkel. I can’t see any way of getting to it without the tank off, (which I haven’t done on the Tiger yet).

I suppose it will be ok as it is a pre filter and not that dirty but I like to keep on top of maintenance stuff if I can.

Its not a tank off job wigster, there is a bracket at the back of the tank you have to take off, just a couple of bolts, the pre-filter is just a rubber insert so you basically just work it backwards out of the airbox, clean, oil, replace and put the bracket back on.

Ill do mine tomorrow and take a couple of pics or a vid for you.

    Its a 10 min job :)

That would be very helpful Mr Squigg.

Just had the battery out to check the drain hole not blocked and to look at doing the main fuse mod and I think I know which bracket you mean.

Thanks for the video. I have been wondering what to do about the Air Filter on my Tiger.

Where do you get the per filters from.

That’s brilliant Mr Squiggle. Thanks for taking the time to do the vid. I’ll be getting it done tomorrow.

Are you going to do the main fuse mod?

I thought about it Wigster but so far have simply opted to pack a couple of spare fuses, I might see how it goes, once you know about the problem its pretty easy to manage, dont wash the underseat area unless the drain hole is working. Thinking about it, its probably alot simpler to just drill an extra drain hole in the bottom of battery box, if the fuse doesnt get drenched its unlikey to ever need replacing.

Good thinking Mr Squiggle. Will do the same. I was a bit concerned about warranty issues too. You know what dealers are like “My swingarm has broken in half”. ” Ah, that’s because you’ve done the main fuse mod, sorry no warranty claim for you”.

While your at it wigster I recommend doing something to help the centrestand spring, had heard of them letting go and mine did the same on the last ride (Hence all the red rope in the video, thanks to the old bull who packed that, not sure who it was)

No good landing on the center stand coming off a jump or sharp crest at speed

I am going to replace the spring and make up a rubber tie system to solve this issue so I dont end up on my arse, ill let you know what I come up with. Its either that or just dump the damn thing, if only it didnt make servicing so easy :)
