I have been advised not to use a pressure washer on motorbikes. Reasons given include the possibility of blasting water past a seal into somewhere inappropriate, blasing gaskets out, stuffing bearing seals etc.

Now I reckon its a load of bunkum, but that’s just my uninformed opinion. ;)

I do use a pressure washer on my bike, BUT it is a cheapy and has pressure just a bit higher than hose pressure. Never had a problem. I have lifted a sticker off once, but that’s it. It also has to be said that I take care not to spray high pressure blasts onto sensitive bits like bearings or seals.

What do the Old Bulls think? To pressure wash or not to pressure wash?

Pressure washing in fine if you use common sense in my opinion, I have pressure washed my bikes for as long as I can remember, we always had a pressure washer with Dad having trucks and I have a petrol engine and electric type

I comes down to how you use it. Its a lot like alcohol when used correctly its fine, then there is Moto at Hillend and the Caves rides doesnt know how to use it or how much just a mess

I was told it was not good to use them by the manager at the local Kawasaki dealership when I was looking at buying the KLX450, he sadi they he had seen plenty of bikes come through his shop over the years with damage caused by pressure washers. But like TB said, a bit of common sense (and yes I know it’s not all that common) on where you blast and where you don’t goes a long way to making the difference. The type of pressure your using would also make a difference, if you have ever tried a petrol powered washer, there’s enough pressure there to knock a bike of it’s stand.

I agree with Jeffro and TB.
But I do add a grease nipple to the steering head and fill it up with grease.
After each wash I immediately grease all the nipples :cheer: so as to push out any water/dirt that may have gotten in (there’s only 3 grease points on the beemer).

It was only in the last few weeks that I started to use a pressure washer for bike cleaning. I used to use just the hose as I was worried about damaged seals etc with the pressure washer. But like everyone else has said if you are careful around the bits that matter it shouldn’t be a problem.

Except for when I have washed TB’s bike it has been super powerful pressure cleaner lance – 5 mm from everything and made sure that the airbox and exhaust was particulary clean :P

I use a pressure washer but wont let my kids use it to wash their bikes, as they tend to blow stickers off and don’t understand about seals etc.
Plus my daughter will always shoot my son with it and then it is ON.

I now use a pressure washer to clean the mud and cwap off my bike, but a word or warning to Yamaha owners…do not, repeat do not get it anywhere near your linkages, the bloke I bought mine off was pressure washer mad, and my linkages look like they’re going to be a nightmare to replace the rollers in now.

I have a little impressor from super cheap and it has enough pressure to blow the mud off but not that much it would do a great deal of harm, plus I use a soak and leave style car was then pressure wash it.This illiminates the time I have the pressure washer on the vitals,ie: wheeel bearing areas and so on..
