On the issue of pillion pegs Kylie if you look at the bike about you can see it’s got em. The DRZ400S and SM both come standard with pillion pegs but have brackets on the rear subframe for them to bolt to. If ya could find a set of the pegs and ya know someone who is handy welding aluminium shoundn’t be to hard to fit a set.
Have ya looked at the DRZ forum on TT, http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=25, guys on here are a bit of SM action, or is it S&M,

It looks better with the exhaust guard removed, cleaner lines, you can even get a tan on your right leg

AnonymousYeah she is addiment to the fact that it has to have pillion pegs.
Kylie thinks I am going to get on the back of it with her  :S
I am sure though she will get her way and the bike will be fitted with pillion pegs. I still have the sets off the TTR and the WRR which MAY be able to be adapted.

Yes you are right Jeffro. I read that too. I also read in the manual that the DRZ is not meant to be ridden on the highway
That’s OK though because I’ll make sure I stick to streets, roads and avenues but stay off the highway.
And yes I am adament that I need pillion pegs but that’s my perogative as a woman. I need to cart my bitch around  (I really am joking DanD, I just couldn’t help myself). No I am looking forward to DanD’s and my RDO’s when we can both hop on and go for a day ride (during school hours of course).
On a serious note, taking into consideration what Jeffro quite correctly identified, do you think that this would cause a safety issue? I have no idea but if they put it in the book then they must have a reason for it.
The only option for me if I can’t add them is for DanD to get motard wheels for his WR. Then we can both ride.
September 14, 2009 at 10:47 am #152685I think the manual for the DRZ400E is right, it is not recommended for pillions as it has no pillion pegs. Remember the DRZ400S and DRZ400SM are basically the same as the DRZ400E and they both come standard with pillion pegs so I can’t see it an issue.
September 14, 2009 at 11:32 am #152706I think its because the pillion cant hang on due to the power…

The Pic above is
You cannot tell if it was an E, SM (it has the USD forks) or an S (it has the steel tank).
I do remember reading on TT that the S and SM had pillion pegs and they have extra lugs welded to the subframe.
If you want to do a good job with this project take a bit of time and do it right, you might have to look for a straight subframe off one of the other models.
If you get the lugs welded on the subframe will need to be anodised again to look neat. The springs are soft on the DRZ so you will at least need to wind up the rear a lot for 2 up. Thats a hassle on the DRZ even with a C spanner.
September 14, 2009 at 12:07 pm #152713I’m uploading a very inspirational video for all the DRZ lovers (I am still one).
Check the Suzuki forum tomorow, it will take a while to load up. -
