Mid Nth Coasters , Has anyone ridden or driven the length of Plommer Rd recently , I intend driving my 4×4 towing my Camper trailer along it tomorrow from North Shore through Pt Plommer and onto Crescent Hd unless somebody here has done it recently and advises against it . I don’t want to negotiate serious off rd conditions as I’ll have the missus along , last time I drove it was in a Kombi and it was easy .
Anyone ????
October 18, 2013 at 9:32 am #250813I did it on my XR650 about 6 months ago and it was no Freeway  but there were other 4bs on it as well so you should have no issues mate. Great part of the country up there !

October 18, 2013 at 9:57 am #250814200 meters of sand mate, the water holes will be full and the sand wet no problems for you. They have had a heap of rain up there but wont affect that expect for the water holes like I mentioned. We did it on the August nav ride and it was easy (maybe not for Eagle  )

October 24, 2013 at 11:20 am #250856Made it through no issues , Missus didn’t have Kittens
, The scenery made the slowness of the trip very much worth it .
Murph , that Billabong has the Lilly flowers on it at the moment , worth the drive for that and the awesome solitude at Goolawah beach too
. Camp ground at Goolawah is a perfect spot too , spotted an 1190 Adv heading Sth on Plommer rd @ 9.00 am ish Sunday , he would have had a ball
.

Solitude is what I chase.
There are still some quite pockets up and down the coast.
Billabong looks even better when in flower
Cheers
MurphOctober 25, 2013 at 7:41 am #250816I saw a segment on tele last night about the ex multi millionaire bloke that lost his fortune in the stockmarket crash in the 80`s and took up residence on Restoration Island FNQ,,
Hate to say Murph, but he reminded me of you mate
Not in looks or age  He did have long hair thoughHe had similar views to you on crowds though and apparently even though he lost the court case to stop the Island being sold, the current owner is happy for him to stay on a caretaker until it sells. Even prompted any prosoective buyers/ developers to allow him to stay on in the future
Good Luck to him I say,, and his two dogs 😆
October 25, 2013 at 8:19 pm #251027Those billabongs are infact the result of the rutile mines that were there in the 60’s and 70’s, the Plommer road was there to service them, that is why no maintainence has been done on the road since they stopped the mining. I remember the mines being there when I was a kid when we used to camp at Plommer before the National parks took it over and buggered the whole feel of the place.
