So I had some leave booked and was going to go to the Flinders Ranges for a ride and some prerunning for next year. I changed my mind about the Flinders event so I had the leave booked and thought now what?
After the recent Simpson Crossing I was gob smacked by how much I enjoyed it and the desire for more, so back to the Simpson I figured.

I worked through a list of potential ride partners, considering I was providing a bike for them to ride fully prepared and their travel to and from Birdsville I was surprised when I couldn’t get anyone I wanted. Sure we all struggle to get leave and some work for themselves etc. but the list ran out real quick. They needed to be able to ride sand real well, be able to keep going for 10plus hours in the dunes because of the ride I want to do and not want to stop much. Sounds bossy when I read it back but hey it’s my ride, so I was going on my own. No big deal, but then Pete the Wulf asked about hiring a WR for next years Bridge To Bridge and then this popped up.
So we are putting the band back together, well a part of the band from this great ride

So now we are doing a double unsupported crossing and planning to do it in two days. OK logistics,
    Drive 2000kms
Ride across the Simpson in a day (most take 2 to 4) unsupported (No big deal *)
Ride back the next day in a day
    Drive 2000kms

Tekinks are getting us to do some suspension testing and we will have a support car driver in Birdsville if required. So now to prepare two of our trusty WRs. The previous Simpson ride showed a weakness with the Barrett racks flexing due to the lack of a cross brace. I have engineered one in the RideADV shed, sadly its test due to time restrictions will be in the Simpson. We need to carry 34 L of fuel, 10 L of water and emergency sleeping if we have to stop for the night. Both bikes are / will be equipped with LED driving lights for the early start / late finish. Really looking forward to this and the road trip each way funnily enough

*If the Simpson is wet like it’s easy to ride, if it’s dry and wind swept it’s a tough day at the office
