    G,day bulls,
Having some issues with my sons pw80,it had a stator repair last year and had been running sweet.(dry weather only)
But took it to pacific park in the wet and after starting first kick and running like a dream started to cut out after a few laps of the kids track.
Start it up again and get a few laps and the same.
Did the obvious new plug, fresh fuel, checked carbie clean(a bit of dirt in the bowl),sent him back out and a few laps and dies again.
By now he has this look on his face
Now back home it wont die?Does any one know if these fun bikes can’t go in wet conditions?

Try the plug that connects the kill switch, switch block to the wiring loom. Most likely found behind the front number plate, I know that is an achilles heel of the PW50 in wet weather or after a wash. Spray some contact cleaner or WD in it and tape it up and see how you go.

My brother and I grew up in the early 80’s on pw 80’s. As you are obviously aware they are a great bike and still hold some of my fondest memories of riding. The only hassle we had in the wet was splash actually getting on the spark plug lead and shorting/disrupting the spark. Had to be pretty wet for this to happen. We would just pull the plug lead off and wipe/blow/wait it dry and all fine. I have heard that a bit of silastic can help but have never tried it.

Not sure how much the bike design has changed since then but I guess very little. Might be worth a look.

Bundyroy, ill have a look at the lead as well, thanks mate. I sealed up and moved the wiring right up under the tank, and ran it in the yard now its all dry it runs like a dream, refused to play up so its looking like water issue. Yeah probably same design as the 80’s,yep its been a fun bike, he loves it but he was spewing when it went back on the trailer without hardly riding it.
