I had a 250gb external hard drive sitting around not doing anything, so I pulled it apart, as one does, and found that the drive itself was okay. So I thought I’d buy me a media player without a hard drive from fleabay, which I now have.
I loaded up all my music files onto the hard drive which was only about 40gig and inserted the drive into the media player. Works fine…except the thing does not see all the music files. in fact I’d estimate that it returns to the start of the line up at about 1/8th of the way through the list.
Is there something I’ve done incorrectly? I plan to put this thing (or something like it in the car some time in the future which means never having to listen to the say song twice…ever, so I’d like to get it sorted…

November 2, 2008 at 2:42 am #111212Shane make sure the drive isn’t partitioned, if you go to manage computer (right click my computer) go to disk management, check wether you have some empty partitions, if so you will need to delete all partitions and re-create 1 big one, you will lose any data on it, then do a full format not a quick format as quick does not check for errors or bad sectors.
Cheers
Chris.P.S. that will be $90.00 or a beer!!!
November 2, 2008 at 8:40 am #11128290 bucks! I’m in the wrong line of work!!!
Thanks Chris, the box on the floor says the drive is healthy and when I analysed it said it didn’t need to be defragged. I like the sound of defragging but I digress. I’ve started a format, hopefully, if that ever ends it’ll all work sweetly.
Update: I formatted the drive last night which took AGES, so I guess that it wasn’t a quick format! Reloaded all the files and put the drive back into the media player. Now, after some considerable time searching, the player displays “ROOT” on the screen and lets me do nothing else with it! Now, this player being made in China I’m guessing that it’s not advising me to go forth and multiply, so what have I done wrong this time? Might be $180 bucks or two beers Chris?
November 3, 2008 at 5:45 am #111299I’m about 1 effing minute away from throwing this effing thing through an effing window then paying Mr. effing ching chong chinaman an effing visit and turning his effin media player into the worlds largest effing suppository! effing thing!
I’m just sayin.
November 3, 2008 at 6:03 am #111355Isnt it working correctly Shane
November 3, 2008 at 7:20 am #111357That would be a fair assumption to make.

AnonymousI had the same issue. Drive needed to be formatted
November 20, 2008 at 4:32 am #112578Yeah? So, after I format the drive, I should format the drive? I formatted the drive, fitted it to the desktop, worked fine, installed it into the player, no workies.
Repeat.
I returned the unit a week ago with the faint hope that it will be replaced. This week has been pure bliss, I’ve never been so calm. I’ll never see it again.

AnonymousJust saying mine only needed formatting/it would have been worth having a couple of cracks. From your later post it looks as though you did have more than one go. When it displayed ‘root’ maybe it was telling you to calm down and get a root.
