January 16, 2012 at 9:48 am #214595Hi Bob,
there are a heap of motocross clubs in the central west these days. Dubbo, Mudgee, Dunedoo, Tottenham, Condo,Bathurst,Orange etc.
The best thing to do is join one that suits and then get your youngster into a kickstart course to get their license to ride. That gets them basic skills training and then they are good to ride at any club day for 12 months. You need to re-do this course every year which is a drag but it also means they have the best info on riding their bike safely.
The club has all the info you need on courses and they all run a nippers class aimed at little kids. The nippers is non-competitive so no pressure on them which is a terrific idea!
Denman run pony express races and they also cater for juniors as well if you are interested in that style of riding as well. I think Condo may do something similar but not 100% sure.January 16, 2012 at 11:45 am #214596Bob,
I grew up in the central west racing bikes and the main ones we were tied up (from the late 80s to late 90s but clubs still going strong) in was Panorama mcc (Bathurst) they used to do mx, grass track (open natural terrain mx) and a great poker run for kid (12k enduro loop every lap you get a card.. best hand wins)
We also joined Canobolas mcc (west of orange) but being from oberon it was a bit of trek, back then they only had a 12 gate start which meant more age groups safer starts, I dunno if this has changed though..
Depending on where you are (clarence) Lower mountains is a great club has a nice sand track and a good venue..
A favorite when I was a young bloke was the Bullinda Bike Busters (Dunedoo) they used to run there races over a long weekend so youd get there friday night, race all weekend drive home monday night, it was a great venue and a lot of us kids would get into a fair bit of mischief whilst camping swimming , waiting for the next race but a good time..
Woodstock is mostly flat track but it is nice kidney shaped circuit and seems to be a good atmosphere about the club.. I did one of there club days a few weeks before the 2006 aussie titles at Blayney and everyone at the club seemed really good, the PWs even attacked the full circuit which a lot of the little kids loved..
All the mx clubs have seperate shorter tracks for the PW50 riders, and no matter which one you choose I’m sure your kids will have a ball..January 16, 2012 at 4:08 pm #214597BBB at Dunedoo is still the same osmooian! We have tried to get it back to 200+ bikes back but its a hard call with so many other clubs about now. Still the best sand track about and it doesn’t matter who you talk to they always say it was one of their favourite tracks! Its fully watered with a sprinkler system so no dust any more either.
There is talk of a pony express style race this year at BBB as well. Fingers crossed.January 16, 2012 at 4:52 pm #214598as soon as I get my daughter riding I’ll be back at dunedoo!
she can stand up on her own now so its not far off….

January 16, 2012 at 9:43 pm #214617Panorama Motorcycle Club in Bathurst would be your best bet Bob. It seems well run and everyone is nice and easily approachable. A friend of ours has just been voted in as president and his kids ride. He will do a great job. I know they do the junior lisence and have coaching days as most clubs do.
I’m not sure where they run the little tackers at the motocross track, but at their grass track days they mow a separate track for the PW50/80 and the parents run non competitive racers for them. It’s great to watch.
