Well the inevitable has happened. I have been putting off buying a new set of radiator gaurds for the DRZ as I am a tight arse and have been trying to get a set cheap off ebay. I have bid on a few sets but they always go for stupid prices.

Last Tuesday Twobanger and me went for a ride up at Clarence (how good does it feel going for a ride on a week day knowing most other people are at work). Anyway the plan was for 80km of mostly single track.

All was going well having a ball when we come across a deep rutted section. I went down hard with the DRZ sliding on its side along the rut. When I picked it up I could see the right radiator had copped a good hit.

We rode on for a while aand the next time we stopped in could smell that unmistakable aroma, radiator fluid. Look down and sure enough it was leaking.

As twobanger was having front tyre issues and I had now sprung a leak we called it a day and headed for the cars.

Got home had a look, yep not good small crack on the bottom of one of the tubes.

I straighened the radiator up myself then took it to a radiator place. He put some you bute shit on the bottom around the crack and it all seems good. Took it for a 15km street ride today no leak. Radiator bloke didn’t even charge me.

Then off to Sutto’s for some radiator gaurds. Mal ordered me a set of Force Gaurds which I fitted today, they look the shit. Good bracing and plenty of side impact protection.

As usual Mal looked after me with a great price, way beyond the 10% for OB members. Couldn’t have got em off ebay second hand for the price. Thanks Mal and Suttos, legends.

Anyway all good to go again. I will keep an eye on the radiator repair to see if it holds up. Fingers crossed.

 Sounds like you were both lucky & unlucky on a few accounts there Scotty,,,

Unlucky to damage the rad in the first place & cut a ride short :(
Lucky to have not done more serious damage to the rad or engine
Lucky to get the rad repaired at no cost :)
Lucky to secure such a good deal from old mate Mal :cheer:

Good Luck with the repair watching ;)

Eagle you left out; “Lucky it wasn’t a BMW because no-one makes a decent radiator guard yet”.

I am still annoyed about punching a hole in mine soon after I got the bike, and all because no strong guard is available for it.

Fester Suttos are able to get a couple different brands of gaurds, I got Force ones, they fit great and offer plenty of protection. Anodises black too so look good.

Give Mal a call for a price he does great deals for old bulls. I don’t want to put up a price and have people ringing him demanding the same deal but im sure he will look after you.
