Thought I’d make a general rant thread instead of just one topic.
The new ranger ad gets on my goat!
The one set in tassie where the guy takes his mini excavator into the bush and forms tracks for mtb down hill fun.
It’s not the mtb bit, it’s the fact that he is aloud to take machinery into the ‘ pristine wilderness’ his words in the ad, and make tracks.
Motorcycle riders wanted to do the same we’d be branded environment vandals, ruining the precious bush for everyone else for all time never to recover
Ok rant over.

+ 1
At least if dirtbike riders make ST it’s simply following the natural terrain, no excavators or bobcats, at most it’s with a hand saw or small chain saw for saplings.
Adam.

Pretty hard to get a clear picture from a 30 second commercial. If you Google the Tassie MTB projects you’ll understand it a lot better. They are obviously not built in World Heritage areas. Tassie also has a huge trail network and good dirt bike culture that nobody is suggesting should be closed. You will also find plenty of the guys that ride dirt bikes cross train in the MTB parks for fun and fitness. What about motocross tracks that are on public lands. I am pretty sure machinery is built to make those.
We should be celebrating the fact that riding culture is becoming mainstream as this may open the door for better access in the future.
Our biggest problem is the noise we make. Once MTB trails as built everyone enjoys them in relative silence. As long as we can be heard we are considered to be enviromental vandals. Once we are all riding electric bikes we should be fineSTM
June 8, 2014 at 10:33 pm #257329I have raced both Enduro on Motor bikes and on MTBs , as well as Cross Country and Down Hill MTB right up to National level .
I have built trails By hand with saw and rake , that were used for State rounds in MTB cross Country , but , I don’t like Earth moving machinery made trails .
We have a MTB park here in Newcastle that was rearranged by Glenn Jacobs with machines , it now is very low on fun factor for me because it is so sanatized and smoothed over . I know a lot of this is to remove the issue of erosion from the area as much as possible , but erosion is a natural occurance and adds to the surprise factor when riding these trails . Land management teams want to control everything right down to where each grain of dirt is at all times . Let nature provide the setting and let me ride it is all I ask  . I am lucky I have an area about 500m from my front door that is riddled with Natural terrain trails that I ride regularly on my MTB legally . If I had to only ride Glenrock ( The Glenn Jacobs designed ride park ) I would have hung up the MTB and gone to do some thing else . One mans passion is anothers poison .
June 8, 2014 at 11:34 pm #257330I dont ride MTB’s,,Too bloody hard to pedle em,,I do like ripping around there tracks on my dirt bike though :cheer: :cheer:  FUN.
June 9, 2014 at 1:24 am #257353nothing wrong with MTB s i just hate how they like our tracks so much so they fence them of and take them over nothing wrong with them riding on them but why not share.and they are messy buggers putting pallets and shit everywhere.just had to join in the bitch session :woohoo:
June 9, 2014 at 4:59 am #257370My issue isn’t with mtb riders at all.
It’s the perception.
It seems ok for mtb riders to alter terrain to suit without any quorums from the public.
But dirt bike riders are vandals if we deviate from fire trails.
You’re right STM they don’t have time to give any background info that the tassie government / forestries are involved in the process.
June 9, 2014 at 6:17 am #257371Hey STM, have you looked at stocking leky mtb bikes? Guess it’d depend on interest / demand.
Wonder what it would cost to hire one for the day………..

Nothing further your honour!!! :angry:Too darn right TR, far too easy to be played by either side!
The spouse that is supposed to pay that minimises their earnings to below 20 000, by being ’employed’ by their new spouse therefore deeming the parent that has the children thr majority of he time has to pay support to the one that minimsed their income to be below the main carer!
Then brags to their youngest son they bring in $75 000
Then there are the blokes that pay for up to and more than 10 years only to find out they were not the father and no way of getting their hard earned rightfully returned to them!
June 10, 2014 at 5:54 am #257332I agree, plus they are near impossible to deal with!
