AnonymousI’ve been wanting to do one of Rat’s coaching days for ages now. Maybe I’ll be able to get to the one in the next school holidays. It sounds great!
January 14, 2010 at 11:42 am #168089I have taken my son and nephew to rats training schools and both realy had a ball and improved in there riding skills
Rat has a way of talking to the kids that they just seem to get. I have done a school with Rat and four other adults it helped me a lot I could really do with another school out at the track if he will get an OB’s school going that would be a blast seeing how many bulls Rat can get doubling the rythym section  :laugh:January 14, 2010 at 8:15 pm #168204WE spent another very productive day at Rat’s school yesterday. It was Connor’s turn to get his mandatory 5hrs training.
Bull is right in saying that Dave can get the kids to relate to what he is telling them. Connor’s nemesis was the step up jump as he had a huge off on it last year. All my advice went unheeded and he would just ride through it slowly. Dave got him aside and had a yarn and next you know he hit it pinned and now he jumps it all the time.
The rhythm section was another thing that was frustrating Connor for a few years now. Yesterday Dave told him how to do it. His first attempt wasn’t pretty but he made it and from then on he was hitting it all day and ripping through them. He had a ball yesterday Dave, it was great to see his confidence level so high again. By days end he was railing rutts, clearing tabletops and generally riding his bike like it was designed to be ridden. I would be very surprised if yesterday’s school hasn’t taken at least 3 seconds or more off his lap times. Over a three lap race 9 seconds is a good pick up.
Cheers Dave, Money well spent!!!January 14, 2010 at 8:28 pm #168214I think Rat’s theory , “carry a clip board so you look important”, works on the kids, they listen to everything he says. If they have seen him ride they mightn’t take any notice at all.

January 14, 2010 at 10:47 pm #168219Great to hear of Laddies, that’s great Connor, now you’ll have to get the old fella to takes some photos for us of you in the rhythm section.
Dave You’re credit to the sport mate, the coach here while a nice bloke and good coach for teenagers and older ones is
a- not good at relating to the real younger ones
b- over $200 a session….
While I don’t mind spending money ( oh believe me I’m good at that) it rankles a bit when you know what the standard rates are elsewhere.
Keep up the good work Mr Rat and his talented students

Bruce I really enjoy working with any age but the young and the girls would have to be my favorites, I also work with a few A Graders and have shaved times down continually with them, I like the challenge of the difficult cases that wont listen , I think there is not a demographic I dont enjoy,
I have also been acredited to do flat track, Motard and Super cross, but I enjoy the 7-15 year ages at MX mostly I thinkThanks for the compliments Mate, and the way I figure it if I can just spread the sickness and obsession to a few others I have done my lot in life and bikes and bike riders will remain with us, we need obsessive compulsives to do the work and spread the gospel of speed and adrenalin

No Rat thats not what I meant stop being such a princess, are we a touch sensitive tonight. You know that teaching someone will always work better coming from a 3rd party then a parent.
Besides you need the coach to turn up anyway
Now piss of and have a bex and a lay down

January 26, 2010 at 6:47 pm #168276A special mention and thanks also should go to Bullpit MX gear who supports Dave’s schools by way of providing prizes.
BULLPIT MXDave dropped by recently and handed over a trick set of Gloves he felt Connor had earned because of the vast improvement he made at Dave’s last school he attended. To say Connor was stoked was an understatement.
Thanks Bullpit and thanks again Dave!!
