Don’t look to bad. I thought they were plastic. Found a site in the us that sells them for $32USD so the ebay price seems about right too.

I can’t seem to get the ebay link to show up. It is frustrating the hell out of me. But if you are interested look up ktm rear brake reservoir in ebay and have a look. They are $51 delivered.

Sutto’s have them for RRP $74.20 but with an OBT discount can do them for $62.90 speak to Mal. Mal was saying he has just fitted one to his 530 ;)

Not as cheap as the $56 OS but a good price and thanks to Sutto’s for giving me a price straight away

On the other bit Bruce I honestly feel if he has quailty uncompromised DOT 4 in it now DOT 5 will still do it as well if he is hard on the rear brake. The volume of fluid is very small. Axels mate whos name I cant remember ran out of rear brakes because the pads were half worn on the Orange ride Dan and I did with them, added some fluid and no more drama half worn pads and the fluid drops because the piston is out further was enough. Just my thoughts

DOT 5 will only prolong the fade for a short period of time, if you are heavy on the brakes or there is some other problem then it will still happen as TB points out.

It would seem if you are heavy on the brake the best option after changing pads is the cylinder extension.

You must be using the rear brake a lot Roy, are you sure you aren’t accidentally running with slightly on?

Yep it is only a temporary measure cause you’re right TB it’s only a few degrees in reality, the real issue is something else that needs attending to.

I mustn’t have been overly clear. Like Austblue said I was saying the australian price was good and it wasn’t worth going overseas to chase the part. The link not working didn’t help my cause any I guess. The $52 was australian not overseas. The only reason I even knew an OS price was that when you google things the yanks always make sure they are listed first unless you go australia only (which I did once I knew what I was looking for).

On the fluid thing. The manual says 5.1 but stamped on the master cylinders it has 4. Needless to say 5.1 will be going in.

On the riding the brake thing. I do have free play in my pedal so that’s not it. I think I need to lower my pedal a bit though (it is already just below footpeg height) as I can feel it on my boot now when riding. It may have moved slightly too. Will check all this during the repair.

Sorry for starting an OS/australian debate.

Just a side issue. I have done just under 4000km now on the bike. In that time I have replaced one set of pads. I have a sneaking suspicion it was the rear but am not 100% sure as my memory is not the flashest. I will find out though as when I did it I bought a set for the front and back and I still have the unused ones on the bench. I have not had any problems until now (well with the exception of when I was learning which way to go with the piston link when adjusting pedal height and went the wrong way). Something has changed when the pads have worn down. Measured them the other day (before the batemans ride) and I think there was just under 3mm left.

yeah yeah good call AB, dot 5 is silicone based and actually has lower boiling point than 4, Dot 5.1 is the schnizz….

It should have 5.1 in it from standard.
Change the fluid and re bleed the system and put the extender on.
As TB said we are doing them for $62.90 and there in KTM Orange (what KTM rider dosn’t like bling?)
    Cheers

(if the feel wasn’t comming back in the lever then it would most likely be a master cylinder rebuild. But you shouldnt need one of those yet.)

    correct tisco,

from the kato bible…”Never use dot 5 brake fluid! it is based on silicon oil and of a purple colour. Seals and brake hoses must be especially adapted to it.
