I recently purchase a 2009 KTM 250 exc (2T). I took it for a ride today (first ride before this weekends Nundle ride) and ended up pushing it home ( I live half way up the bloody lookout = fun). The Bike “seemed” not to have a shite load of power, but I was not sure what to expect. The bike was far to easy to kick over, but it started first kick every time. This is the first 2t bike I have owned (I have ridden a 300 Gas Gas and 250 KTM 250 exc (2013) hence the interest in moving from a KLX400 to a 2 stroke. I can’t seem to upload photos but the piston has some big gouges in it (its farked – not the power valve side, the left hand side if you were sitting on the bike) the rings were not freely moving, not a lot of blow by but it is very well stuffed piston. The crank has a little sideways movement but no upward or downward movement. I was booking the bike into Bikes and Bits to fit/jet the new FMF gnarly and shoryt pipe I had coming next week, should I do a new 250 Piston kit and jug or has anyone done a 300 kit? Any comments are welcome. Cheers

Cheers Burnsy. The bike cant be ridden as I pulled it apart last night. I am just wondering if anyone has had success converting their 250 to a 300 or would it be best to stay 250. Also, I will need the cylinder repaired (if i stay 250) so can anyone recommend someone near Tamworth? Thanks

Yikes. Sorry to hear that. Sounds like previous owner seized it and sold it. Those cylinder coatings are quite tough so make sure it’s truly bad before having it bored and re coated. Your going to need some help. That big end sounds normal. Might get away with not having to spend too much yet…

Would it be worth doing the port bridge oil hole in the piston mod?
