I can’t see it happening and I don’t won’t it either. I’m happy with the set up as it is. I reckon if it did go ahead there would be heaps tighter rules and regs out in the bush.

As for Mr Blues statement…I aint never seen a yz250 walk past me 300 . I reckon I could ride ya YZ into the ground in half an hour out in the bush  The’re meant for motos and not trailriding that’s why ya can kill easy

Please excuse my ignorance but why are some people intent on having an MX bike for trail riding??

Their are some awesome regoed enduro bikes avalible that i’m sure not many trail riders with the correct set-up( suspension mainly ) can ride to the bikes full potential. So what’s the advantage for using a MX bike off the track ??

Because some people need a bike that is slower revving, soft and bouncy with a high profile soft tyre, when I was young we used to call them “gumbies” and Old blokes, these days I call them mates (but some of them are still gumbies eh)

btw the way I have a YZ250 with a heavier flywheel, softer suspension, but a 19″ wheel, and it still walks all over EXCs, WRs & the like in acceleration and outright power, but can be a handful when you’re tired in tight going.-bruce said 😆

hay bruce some of us like being gumbies and love our full rego my exc has been a super comuter this week due to traffic problems . reckon your yz must be fast dam wr s and exc are dogs :silly:

With full rego comes full freedom. Why would we want to trade that in?
I ride almost no bitumen at all but the 2k stretch I do have to occasionally do is know as the Pacific Hwy! If I got pulled over on that with rec rego I would be in deep shit yet it is the link between me and thousands of square km’s of state forest.

Let’s not invite more legislation to the table by opening it up to everyone. If it is a matter of cost you are in the wrong sport. If it is because you want to ride an MX bike in the bush go to a ride park and if you are in favour of rec rego because it works in Victoria then move there.

Speak to a Euro or someone from most states in the US and our freedom to ride is unparalleled. We are better keeping our heads down and being courteous to other trail users than we are standing up and screaming out for rec rego. Whether it is justified or not most other users of state forests hate us but because we jump through the hoops of being licensed and rego’d we are allowed to coexist.

I am very happy with the current set up and all the incredible riding I have outside my garage door I get to ride knowing that I am completely in my rights to do so.

One point we seem to be missing , Ill bet most currently unregistered bike riders will remain that no matter what recreational rego scheme is developed. So many just dont give a shit and are prepared to ride un regod and often unlicenced when and wherever they want. The blokes on this web site with unrego’d bikes are the ones who will wherever possible do the right thing, unlike the idiots out there that cause all the problems and give bikes a bad name.

I fail to understand how they can make legislation that lets non ADR vehicles be used in public areas. It’s simply a double standard.

I’m not up o what needs to be done to the bikes to get rec rego, is there any noise restrictions. I keep hearing hour noise is killing our sport yet they want to let MX bikes, with open race systems legal ride in the bush. I’m sure that will help the cause.

Victoria already has rec rego. Is there any figures that show the sales of mx bikes in victoria is a higher percentage than in other states.

Drovers ride their quad bikes on stock routes they must do that under some sort of conditional registration. You would think I would know being from the bush but I am involved in a different type of horsepower. Ask Boll He is in the Cattle rustlinn trade

Maybe style Dusty, I spent 12 years racing every weekend mostly and NT is mostly won in the dash to the first corner, so maybe rider but…… I have out & out drag raced 300s of all eras/450 enduros etc in a straight line and I owned a pre 36mm carb 300 with work and the plain fact is the light reciprocating mass, CR gearbox and higher Peak HP does what it is supposed to do, get you there first.
Not only that put a 300 rider on a YZ or RM250 for a bit in the bush and they will either love it, or as I was told by two recently (one a husky 250 owner and the other WR450 rider) Man that thing just beats you up, it is the absolute last bike you wanna get whiskey throttle on in the scrub.
This is why you are right, for most they don’t make a great enduro mount, too much too soon and outa control.

Now back to TBs Q, my bike was until recently QLD solo rego, around $200 a year, I let it lapse to get NSW rego when all the crud hit then fan and currently I am NOT riding in the bush until something is worked out cause simply I refuse to pay $500 in NSW, I’ll go back to QLD instead.

We have our quads and ‘golf cart’ type vechicles conditional rego’d. The quads don’t comply to ADR but they must have lights & blinkers that work. The conditional rego only allows us on public roads travelling within our property or to and from other properties.
