Ride at Bulls
A big thanks to Bull for putting on this ride even though he couldn’t ride himself. Thanks also to the lead and of course the sweep rider Mick.
Great riding country up there, we headed out on the morning loop with the young ones in tow on what was a nice cruisy run on some leaf littered trails, across paddocks and creeks with a few rocky trails as well. It was pretty slippery in places but generally the trails were in good nick and the only dust was on some main road transport sections.
There was 1 DNF on the morning ride due to bike trouble and one due to injury when Daves young bloke came off in a fairly big way. I didn’t see the crash but was only a 100 meters or so behind and saw him lying there for a second before he crawled to the side of the track. Dave idled hime back to bulls and he was taken off to hospital with suspected concussion after Dave noticed that one pupil was not dilating the same as the other and he kept asking where he was and how he got there. Hope all is well with him today.
We headed out again for an afternoon run with some of the younger riders staying back to play on the motocross track. The pace was a bit quicker this time with a few more challenges thrown in, we had to fight our way through the jungle at times stopping to lift the low vines out of the way and the old bush saw came out as well. Again on this ride there were a couple of DNF, all due to bike failure and not injury thankfully. One bike stalled at the bottom of a gully and refused to start again and so was left behind then I had electrical problem (again) with the DRZ and Mick towed me back to bulls place after I had spent nearly half an hour trying to find the problem without success.
Back at Bulls Ollie noticed his rear wheel bearings were looking a bit sloppy so off came the back wheel and out fell what was left of the bearings, another scratching for the Sunday ride. With my weekend of riding over I decided to head home to get an early start on fixing the old girl. Some Pictures

March 24, 2012 at 11:59 am #218739So this morning I hook the jumper cables to the bike and find the problem straight away, I knew I should have tried that yesterday but couldn’t be bothered.
I think I am going to pull every electrical connection apart a whack a bit of grease on them to try and prevent these bad connections. Will that help?

Fixed the first problem which was getting power at all, still can’t get it to turn over though. Going to put a new battery in it I have and try that.March 24, 2012 at 1:16 pm #218760So turns out there were two problems, a bad connection at the connection for the ignition (fixed) and the battery just died. This morning it had enough charge to make a clicking sound and an hour later absolutely nothing, completely dead. Even with jumper leads to another bike and a battery charger it would only wind the starter over without engaging it. Bypassed the battery and away it went so I disconnected it and hooked the jumper leads directly to the bike cables and again it fired straight up. Just need to buy the right battery now, the spare I had is for the tenere.
An easyish fix in the end but still a pain in the you know what especially since I drove 3 hours and paid for overnight accomodation Friday night for the ride .
It was still a good ride thoughMarch 24, 2012 at 3:39 pm #218761March 24, 2012 at 5:02 pm #218762Onya Jeffro
Good report and pics, mate
Shame about your bike but it sounds like you have fixed her.
Cheers

Thanx for the report Jeffro
Looks like Bull still knows how to put on an epic weekend of riding & hospitality (pity he is still hobbling around though)
Hopefuly I can make the next Bulls Weekend at RollandsI had a late notice ride myself today with a mate . A lazy 100k crazy loop down to Hawkmount Rd area near Cooranbong, and back through some local trails and powerline tracks …
We got lost a bit, but had a great time searching for an old Quarry (that we didn`t find in the end)
But we also found some tight twisting leafy singles and a tonne of muddy creek crossings  :woohoo:Also managed to stall the 690 on a rather steep conglomerate hill,,,,, which resulted in a little drop to the left and some new scars
Cheers
March 24, 2012 at 5:28 pm #218741Thanks to Bill and his family for a greta weekend. Scott and James for leading and organising the pack and to Mick for sweeping.
It had been three years since I was out at Bills and it was just as good as I remember. The effort in the kitchen was incredible and everyone had plenty of food and good times. It was a greta crew with some familiar faces and some great new members to add to the mix.
I would have done my typical big ride report with edited footage but unfortunately my Go Pro mount cracked and my camera is gone. I always check it if I hit something but I had not and when I stopped and went to clear the lens it was gone. The boys took 10 mins while Nickj,Corey8 and myself had a look but it was gone.
I was running the skeleton back so it is exposed to the elements.
Apart from that I had a ball on and off the bike. My highlight on the bike had to be my single track battle with Sam. :woohoo:
All in all it was another great OBT weekend.STM

March 24, 2012 at 10:30 pm #218769I have leech bites, scratches, bruises and a rather sore arm, but still I had a great weekend. I have never been up to Bill’s and not had a great time actually. A huge thanks, to Keryn, Bill and their family for putting on another great weekend. The food and hospitality have raised the bar once again. If you went hungry this weekend it was your own fault.
Scott our leader for both days also deserves a big Cheers too, great trails mate.
Bill has a fantastic set up were he lives, it is a deadest dirt bike Nirvana, the beauty of Bill’s place is that the kids can come along for the ride and they get to experience top notch bush trails with their Dad’s! It is great to ride with the young blokes and they have a great time and gain valuable experience by riding in the group.
Saturday saw about 35 of us hit the trails and Sunday saw 27 riders back up again. It was a bit humbling for me today to concede defeat on a hill after 3 good cracks at it (one of which saw the XR disappear into the scrub riderless), only to see Connor nail it on his first go! Moose also got a lesson in humility as his 14 year old son rode ol Burple up the same hill on his first go (no mean feat for a 14 year old to ride a XR600 up a snotty hill).
It was great to catch up with the regular Old Bull ride sluts for a social drink and it was also great to meet a few new faces too. Thanks Nato for a blast on your brand new Gasser 300, a very nice bike indeed.
One job I must do this week is change the oil in the XR, I am pretty sure the clutch was red hot after towing Jeffro home on his DR. That was a big job indeed, especially as I am sure the rope we used started life as rigging on the Endevour and it snapped a few times.
All I can say in finishing is, if you weren’t there you missed out on one of those weekends that make Old Bulls so much fun.
