Where’s the big group pics, off being developed
February 7, 2014 at 8:46 am #253785And so the morning came and the knights of the realm gathered to break their fast.
Their hearts were singing with joy as the clan chief, their feudal lord and protector, their liege, their monarch, the very embodiment of themselves as a race of people, King Strucky the 1st, had endured.
How they longed to kneel before him once again to gather the pearls of wisdom that fell from his honeyed lips.
How they longed to see the royal standard fluttering on the breeze in the field.
How they longed to see him galloping his trusty warhorse towards the enemies ranks and carrying all before him.
They were dispatched to the four corners of the land on their mighty steeds to spread the message. THE KING LIVES! LONG LIVE THE KING! LONG LIVE THE KING!!!!
I hope this gives you a laugh Strucky, get well soon!
So it was day 2 and Jacobs Ladder looming on the agenda.
Early trails were good fun and I was getting used to the Tenere. I had to work the box a bit more than the Tiger but didn’t feel that it lacked power compared to the Trumpy on the dirt. Certainly not at the pace I ride at anyway. It felt a lot lighter on tight turns after a nav mistake, and there were a few of those during the day!
The tracks leading up to Jacobs Ladder were brilliant. The best of the week end. Plenty of traction on the loamy surface. Not too tight so a bit of pace was enjoyed. So much so that I overshot the turn off to the ladder and was rounded up by PTW (not for the first time).
Then I found myself at the top of the ladder. Usi and Pathless had already gone down. Holy Mother of God, it looked steep! As mentioned before , steep downhills are not my forte (what is). I decided to take it very cautiously and with a lot of dabbing with the left boot I trundled down at a record slow speed.
Quite frankly I didn’t care how stupid I looked, there was only Trailraider and PTW as my witnesses and they’re not going to tell anyone are they!
Having got down without laying her over I thought the difficulties were kind of over for the day.
But the tracks got rockier and rockier. It was hard to get a rhythm going as the rocks were bouncing the front end all over the place. I think a steering damper is the next mod for the bike. It was great riding though and I was feeling pretty pleased I hadn’t had on off, when I hit a series of erosion mounds. I had been getting a bit of air here and there on the Ten, something I didn’t do on the Tiger , and was quite enjoying it. By the fourth mound in a row I had too much momentum and I noticed that the track fell away quite steeply behind it.
Up in the air I went and the straight away the rear wheel appeared just below my right shoulder. “That’s funny” I thought, “what’s it doing there”.
As you can imagine, the landing was none too elegant. In fact my arse cheek took most of the force of the fall. (you should see the colour of it now, you would never believe the human body could exhibit that may shades of black, yellow and purple).
PTW and Trailraider were right behind me and I could see there shoulders heaving up and down with laughter and my ineptitude. But I’d like to say a big thanks too them as for the last hour I was REALLY tired and they shepherded me in. Thanks Guys!
No damage to my precious Tenere. They crash well that’s for sure.
Some very dusty single track alongside the highway led us back to Brokeback.
What a ride! Another cracking two days. Some of the tracks were super slippery or rocky, so quite a testing week end I thought.
Usi and I hit the highway after a quick beer. In a way I find highway cruising quite relaxing after a ride like that. At least I’m not worried about falling off every five seconds. Any time on a motorbike is surely time well spent.
Great to ride with Usi again, and Pathless for the first time. Amazing for only his second time on dirt. Well done that man!
When can we do all this again. Did someone mention Vic High Country?

Ya evil bastard Wigster, the poor blokes got busted ribs and you want make him laugh.
Get well soon King Strucky
February 8, 2014 at 7:31 am #254008With some major changes happening in my life I needed a release and the first Nav ride for 2014 was it.
I had arranged to meet up with my mate Steve from Coffs Harbour for the ride, we have ridden together for years from jet skis to trials bikes, bucket racing, Sliders, enduro bikes, transalps and now both riding Husqvarna’s things normally get a bit silly when we team up and this weekend was no different…………..
I left work on Friday afternoon for the last time after 22 years heading north to Wauchope was the distraction I needed. I rolled in about 6.00pm. About the same time a 690 KTM rolled in, It was Ian who I met on the longest day ride two odd years ago, We had a chat and decided he would be riding with Steve and myself over the two days.
The bunkhouse is a different concept one that I don’t really like, as I struggle to sleep with people snoring, farting sneezing etc but it was the only option available. Not much sleep was had and we were up early ready to ride.
The whole two days of riding were a bit of a blur but possibly up there with some of the best weekends I have ever had.
I call my mate Steve Mr Squiggle years ago when we had our Transalps we went on a ride and I swear he was trying to join the corners up with fishtail lines.
Well this ride was no different some of the fishtails he was leaving were insane, I was trying to be good as I had all but sold my bike prior to the Nav ride.
After a top feed at the pub with no beer for lunch, peer group pressure finally took over, and the rest of the afternoon was spent backing it in to corners and fishtailing power sliding out.
The three of us were taking turns leading and we were all having a great time, we finished up at Ians at Nambucca Heads for a couple of beers before heading down to our accomodation for the night.
We had a good swim in the pool, Steve diagnosed the issue with Wolfies Triumph, I then messaged the potential buyer of my bike stating ” I had too much fun today the bike is no longer for sale. Had a great feed and some stale beer before turning in for the night.
Woke early and had breakfast and a chat with Kat and Mick then headed out for the group photo. We were dragging the chain getting going but once we did we had a blast on the ride back to Wauchope there was plenty more sideways action……..
Highlights of the weekend
Both Steve and I pretty much destroyed our rear tyres ( Which were both new tyres to start)
I got the worst fuel economy I ever had out of bike using 24 liters to do 260km.Probably won’t get a chance to do another Nav ride this year, so it was good to have such a great time on this one…..
February 8, 2014 at 11:27 am #253786As much as I love getting the maps out and spending hours on Google Earth wondering if I can get from one track to another, without feeling “the sting of hot lead”…it’s just so nice to go on a rideADV.com.au excursion where everything is taken care of. Thanks a bunch to TB at http://www.rideadv.com.au/ , Wolfie at https://www.adventuremoto.com.au/ ,https://www.yamaha-motor.com.au/ and all the OBT Crew.
The accommodation was comfortable to say the least.
Parc Ferme at http://www.breckenridgefarm.com.au/
Luckily, the sign out the front was inaccurate.
rideADV decends on Taylors Arm Pub.
John and Kat are pumped after climbing the infamous Jacobs Ladder.
Kat, (without her GPS), started to wonder if she’d gotten off the route when the trail narrowed to an overgrown, obviously disused track in the middle of nowhere…the signature of a rideADV course…and started beeping the horn when she couldn’t raise me on the 2way…(I had my helmet off to open the gate for her!)
On the valley floor, the country was spectacular.
The view from “behind the wheel” of the General Lee.
Not all ADV rides finish by the sea…Kat takes us to a pub by the ocean…she just happens to know!
Kat decides a “pub run” is in order and powerslides out of the carpark to pick up some wine and Bundys to be enjoyed by the pool.
Then, she clicks into party mode with an LBD and a sauvignon blanc, while Deej and the support crew get this Tiger back in the game.
After a few beers, the bench racing kicked into high gear.
The “nerve centre” of the whole operation.
With this many riders…you do NOT want to run Corner Man System in the dust.
Kat enters the forest…wondering what it will be like descending Jacobs Ladder.
TB tells Kat to HTFU and get down that hill!
Kat…suffering from “Danger Sign Anxiety”
The father and son team almost lost a member after the young L plater drifted wide on a corner and the only thing stopping him dropping out of sight was a couple of small saplings!
Then, Brett, from Dunedoo, threw his XR650 up the road.
and did some mental rehearsal…to figure out where it all went wrong.
John…blasting along the singles beside the highway.
The rest of the ride was a blur of fire trails and erosion humps…’til we wheeled into the Brokeback Ridge compound to a refreshing shower and even MORE refreshing beers!
Top job, guys…thanks to everyone for a great weekend. (TB, Steve, Pete, Dejay, Brett, Mark and our “Lord and Liege” King Strucky…get well soon).
Cheers, Mick.February 10, 2014 at 3:43 am #253787Almost forgot to give AdventureMoto a big Thank You for the CruzTOOLS kit that Kat won for “manning-up” and taking on Jacobs Ladder, and clearing it, first try!
It’s probably well known that Kat carries a comprehensive tool-kit where-ever she goes…(some are even bike related)…and a few months back I lost my tool-roll out the bottom of my pack, while out riding…so Kat presented me with the CruzTOOLS kit…how nice…I even get to use them anytime her bike breaks down…Check ’em out at AdventureMoto: https://www.adventuremoto.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=73&products_id=2336

Pete The Wulf (Sweep)
Irish hopped on my WR250R when the Tiger broke down. The little bike preformed awesome he said. BTW he is a big boy and the only mod to the 250 was a second hand front knobby tyre
At Bowraville, I am shooting the breeze with BadBowie, the Squiggle king and Ian in the orange
Ian
Hey Mrs Squiggle at Alisonarts.com.au my helmet is still going strong and looking awesome

The king’s noble steed
Boulder (good as gold)
A quick wiring job for Peters GPS, looked rough but didn’t burn to the ground the next day so happy days I say
Peter saying so if it does catch fire I will shield myself with my hand, like this
Crash, rode with me on point duties day 1 and with Moose day 2
Everyone got involved with the rideadv loaner Tiger, eventually it was with help from the skid king it was diagnosed as a loose tilt switch. Deejay was a legend here he didn’t give up and the bike preformed faultlessly the next day. Cheers to all involved
More soon I promise

February 14, 2014 at 3:45 am #254122Sweeps View.
Friday was great day for me as i didn’t have to work, so i called in and caught up with the king at his work where we were able get in some wise cracks at Fuchsy….Fucksy…..Fucha……or what ever his name is.
Now off to Mud n Tar where i got two new tyres put on the bike at a price that would please the tightest tight arse around, Rod also ripped off my stand so i could take it away to weld the piece back on that holds my stand spring and after welding it on upside down then grinding it off and welding it round the wrong side and grinding it off again  i finally got it right and went back to Mud n Tar where Rod bolted it back on for me, but not before he whacked a fresh coat of black pain on it for me, great service
Off to Brecken Ridge to get settled in and it wasn’t long before everyone started to turn up and the night was under way, everything went well and people were having a good time, so it was off to bed and get some rest for the days ahead.
Day one and we were set and ready to go, i was keen for today as i was sweeping with Moose, he’s a great bloke and a great rider, Protty also jumped in the mix and that bloke can peddle too don’t worry
We were off and having a ball and didn’t have too many dramas to deal with until we came across the tiger with electrical problems, after we had all sorted out what was going on, us riders on the special route were off to meet the sweep trucks, once we got there we heard the news of King Strucky and it felt like only ten minutes ago that we had left them
The rest of the day was mixed emotions cause the riding was great but i couldn’t stop thinking about Strucky and hoping he was ok.
We arrived at Taylors Arms Pub and i was tempted to a cold beer but chose squash instead, strange i know but i think i still had the king in the back of my mind.
Protty said his farewell here as he was only out for the day but still jumped in to help out sweeping which was much appreciated, Thanks ProttyIt was down to Moose and myself and this is where the fun started, I didn’t get to do Jacobs ladder on the last Nambucca nav ride due to mechanical issues  so i was keen to give it a go and bugger me, if you can’t get to the top of that thing on an ADV bike without getting aroused then I’m sorry to say but you don’t have a heart beat :woohoo: the fun didn’t stop there and Moose and i turned it up and just had a ball, and bit of clay meant no dust and some grip, the shade meant the heat was down and we hooked in and once we reached the gate i pulled up with a “wahoo” and a “how good was that” to which Moose replied “ thats exactly why i ride bikes”, your dead right mate, that was awesome. :woohoo: :woohoo:
The run into Nambucca was great and the resort was a welcome site as was the bar, a few beers and it was off to work stripping and reloading everyones GPS, and from there it was another great night with the presentation from Steve and the briefing from TB, then it was bed time and ready for the run home.
Day two started with a group photo and it was good to see everyone together cause it gave a good perspective of the bikes and people that were there.
As Moose was leading with Crash my new sweep was Trailraider and it wasn’t long before we were having a great time, we were just generally mucking around and having a great time, but every now and then we got to hook in and open the bikes up :woohoo: I really enjoy riding with good riders cause it makes you challenge yourself and it gets you out of your comfort zone but at the same time you have to let go of your pride and back off and let them go and be happy with a free lesson on how to ride rather than go past your own limits and have it turn bad. The rest of the day was great, we were just having fun, slower riders don’t bother me at all and i would rather get in late than put someone in an ambulance so TR and i just sat back made our own fun.
Brecken Ridge was a sight for dusty eyes and a well earned beer was a great way to finish off a great weekend.
A big congrats to Usi who finished his first nav ride and finished it in style.
Congrats to Dave for his first time on dirt and he rode in with a big smile on his face which was good to see.
Thanks to TB and Steve and everyone else on the Rideadv.com.au crew and the new guy Lochie, you worked your arse off mate.
Thanks to everyone who turned up, hope to see you all again soon.
Thanks to Moose and TR, you guys were so much fun to ride with and these weekends are always great, but riding with you two was a highlight not only for the weekend but in my riding life, Thanks guys.
To the King, your a legend and i will catch up with you soon, get well mate.PTW
