So as reported in the garage thread I have a new WR250R see here it now has 800kms on it. After being run in on Harrington Beach  and ridden by a huge Irishman on the nav ride in Feb after his Tiger broke down is ready to be built.
The only modifications so far have been the double take mirrors, a Dunlop 952 front tyre and a B & B bash plate.
The parts have been rolling into Rideadv HQ thanks to Adventure Moto and yesterday I picked up the bits and bobs to start the built.Pivot Pegz
Tapp Lite USB ports for the GPSs we use for track marking and running
Barkbusters of course
Pro Motion rear rack
Chain saw mount for the rear rack, remember this is our track clearing bike and we don’t just ride those fire roads I see in the Nundle videos
IMS 17 litre clear fuel tank extending the range over 400kms
We even had our own Concept Seats made with the Rideadv emblem :woohoo: Super comfortable seats these things
I also have a set of Hondas bend VPS Barkbuster fat bars (The Gold ones)
The forks and shock will be down at Tekniks this week :woohoo: The rear racks will be finished by Barretts and the damper should turn up :woohoo:
We have a new set of Dunlop Geomaxs for both ends and ultra heavy duty tubes of course
More later as the build goes on. I am planning on having it ready for the final pre run in the high country in April

March 16, 2014 at 9:44 am #254994After a large night last night I thought I would spend the day on the lounge but eventually got outside and got stuck into the WR.
Part 1 is done
Pro Motion Billet rear rack
New bars, bar risers, grips, barkbusters, Tapp lites ports and IMS tank
Pivot Pegz
Stage 2. I need to modify the rack to lift it 10mm to take the chain saw mount, fit the Adventure Moto / Barrett racks for the Wolfman luggage and have Nick @ Teknik’s sort the suspension

April 5, 2014 at 9:57 am #254988So the build got under way big time this week. Now it’s finished I have to ask, what carries a chainsaw, all my gear and does 450kms between drinks?
Firstly I would like to thank, Adventure Moto, Yamaha Australia, Teknik Motorsport, Barkbuster Handguards, GFMS and Barrett Exhausts
I had fitted the bars, barkbusters, USB ports, B & B radiator guard, B & B bash plate, Motion Pro billet rear rack to my bike earlier. We then decided to try just a set of heavier springs in the bikes. The thought was the development of these bikes would be as cheap as possible. Testing showed quickly that for me I couldn’t slow the rebound enough on the rear shock, the stronger spring just provided too much rebound force for the valving to handle. After playing with the clickers it was decided that Nick needed to work his magic.
Monday night at Teknik’s was another midnight affair, thanks Nick
The bike lifts just make it so much easierSo the shock was stripped and revalved
Back on the bike
Next the forks, a lot of work went in to the forks and the compression damping setup
Back in the bike and stickered up
From there the build moved to GFMS (Lefty, or Geoff Forshaw Motor Sport) awesome workshop facility. We had two bikes to build and I wanted them finished for this Sunday to give them a shake now before next weekend when Steve Smith and I finish the High Country routes for the May ride.
Steve’s bike with only the racks fitted and 2kms on the clock!Parts and tools
Motion-Pro Billet Chainsaw holder
Motion-Pro Billet rack
Fitted and the Chainsasw added
B and B Bashplate
B and B radiator guard
The IMS tanks were fitted, they have a vacuum pump so they can pick up all the fuel in the tank wings. Lefty hard at it.
Hard at it in the workshop
I fitted pivot pegz to my bike, Steve wanted a set of Fastway pegs. These things are massive
Lefty in the GFMS machine shop
Screens have been fitted to both bikes, Steve’s has the clear high impact screen for test and mine has a dark standard screen. Both screens came from “Screens for Bikes” I top Australian making quality Australian products
Next fitted were some of Barrett’s finest
Mine got a black one
Steve’s
Steve’s had a set of grip warmers fitted. Power for the warmers was fitted up behind the headlight, actually sourced from the high beam.
Both bikes got Dunlop Geomaxs 71 for both ends and ultra heavy duty tubes of course
Finished products
Mine
Steve’s
Random’s
Looking forward tomorrows ride at Hampton.

April 5, 2014 at 11:40 am #254989Fine looking machines there mate, where did you come by the chainswaw rack?
I could see these “pre-run” bikes becoming “adv-lites” too ?? :whistle:April 5, 2014 at 12:02 pm #255554Bulls Wool wrote:Fine looking machines there mate, where did you come by the chainswaw rack?

Adv-lites? umm not for me  , I will do all the bike rides on my Tenere. These for me are strictly prerun. If you wish to hire a bike and try a ride, well watch this space

April 7, 2014 at 12:20 am #255561Hey King,
They are an awesome little bike!! TB and I did a “RUN-IN/SHAKE DOWN” yesterday. We did around 210km of a combination of tracks.Bloody Awesome :woohoo: :woohoo:
Cheers, Lefty
May 28, 2014 at 10:51 am #254991So the WRs have done nearly 2500kms, hard klms. These things have had the wheels ridden off them  So they are due for a service, new tyres and and the search for suspension perfection. Is there such a thing  , these bikes are the best I have ever riden suspension wise. Nick @ Tekniks wants to try something different so ok out comes the shocks and the forks on mine. We are trying different fork settings on both the bikes and Steve refused to change his  Nothing has troubled these bikes, besides a couple of bolts falling out of a radiator guard they havent missed a beat. The number 2 bike has been ridden by Steve (after all it is his  ), Bulls Wool (2 days in the Vic high Country), D Rally (a 450km day prerunning), Josh Evans (A journalist for ADB mag rode if for 3 days in the High Country on the rideadv ride down there) and Steve rode it for a day in the Watagans. Mine has had myself for the most, Moose spent almost two days on it in the High Country when his DR broke down. Fuchsy rode it for a short time in between flat tyres
. So they have exceeded my expectations I must say. I have 3500kms of prerunning in July between Sydney and Brisbane all off road that I will use my WR for that I am looking forward to :woohoo:
Stripped at the GFMS workshop (I call it the Rideadv workshop  )
Suspension components out
Wheels ready for new shoes
Nick searching for tricky bits
I actually put Steve’s shock together (under Nick’s supervision  )
Thanks Lefty for the use of the shed mate

January 7, 2015 at 9:44 am #254992Our first WR250R has left the RideADV shed today! What a bike, fuel and ride. The only thing replaced on the bike in 12 months and 10,000kms was a front sprocket. 3 services (over serviced as the service intervals are 10,000kms), tyres and fuel. It kept up everywhere with the big bikes and preran all our rides. I was ridden on the limit everywhere especially when used as a zero bike. It carried chainsaws, bags, roto packs and computers depending on the job required of it. It spent thousands of kilometres on utes as a spare bike if required by our crew. It was also hired to customers and loaned to people interested in the little 250’s before purchase.
